Scars hold emotion tension as well and physical tension.

Dips vs. Sauna: What Does Your Body Really Need?

Ever tried a cold water dip or a sauna session and wondered, “Is this actually helping my pain or movement?” Here’s what your nervous system wants you to know:

🧊 Cold Water Dips

Cold plunges trigger a surge in your nervous system—think adrenaline, faster heart rate, and tightened blood vessels.

This can numb pain and boost alertness for some, but for others (especially with chronic pain or poor circulation), it may increase tension or discomfort.

Ask yourself: After a cold dip, do you feel energised and refreshed, or more tense and achy?

🔥 Sauna Sessions

Heat from a sauna widens blood vessels and relaxes muscles, delivering more oxygen and nutrients to your nerves.

Many people feel looser, more mobile, and less stiff after heat—but if you have certain health conditions, check with your doctor first.

Ask yourself: Does the warmth help you move better, or does it leave you feeling tired or lightheaded?

💡 What’s Right for You?

There’s no one-size-fits-all answer. Your nervous system is unique. Try tracking how cold and heat affect your pain, movement, and mood. Notice what works—and what doesn’t.

For some, alternating between cold and hot (contrast therapy) can be helpful. For others, sticking to one is best.

Have you ever thought about when you go the the GP and you go in with a list but only look at one issue? have you ever though all your issues maybe due to one system dysfunction having a knock on effect on another system that then has to work harder but is now over loaded. These dysfunctions then stay around and your body ends up so far out of it equilibrium it can’t fix or heal it’s self. Making time for you is the most important thing todo. When you stop and do something you enjoy it allows the body to down regulate. My favourite this is cold water.
