THE BEST BLEED CONTROL KIT?â ď¸â ď¸â ď¸
As many of you may know, MERE Supplies plays an active role in community safety and knife crime awareness. A big part of this is working with charities across the UK to ensure their communities are that one bit safer by providing them with knowledge, and the preparedness of our bleed control kits.
So we would like to explain to you why we love our bleed control kits, and believe they are an excellent choice to have by your side to save someoneâs life.
Every component of our bleed control kits has been chosen based on strong supporting clinical evidence - the 3 main components that are often up for debate areâŚ
đŻ Celox Rapid
We include these in our bleed control kits for the obvious reason that they stop bleeding in 60 seconds, which is imperative when treating significant blood loss. This newer technology is backed by overwhelming clinical evidence, proving Celox Rapid as a very effective haemostatic agent and excellent at preventing blood loss (SĂĄnchez-RoldĂĄn et al, 2024). A clinical follow up survey demonstrated 100% success of haemostasis using Celox Rapid after a single application (see Celox, 2023).
đŻ CAT Tourniquet
We have chosen these for our bleed control kits because their success is backed by a huge amount of clinical evidence. The CAT tourniquet is highly regarded for its ease of self application and effectiveness in controlling limb haemorrhage in both adults and children, under and over clothes. (Two examples of such - Lechner et al, 2024, and Kelly et al, 2020). We feel this is the best tourniquet to include in our bleed control kits, as opposed to other commonly seen tourniquets that have significantly less supporting clinical evidence.
đŻ FoxSeal Vented Chest Seal
We love this product because it has 512 different vents which aim to stop a pneumothorax from tensioning. This is the superior option due to the large number of vents. Traditional chest seals have only a few vents, which can quickly become redundant if they are blocked with blood. 512 vents means there is much less chance of blockages, or rather more chance that some will remain unblocked!
Here at MERE, we are all about clinical evidence, clinical excellence, and being prepared to save a life. As always, MERE is fully compliant with UK regulations and is MHRA registered.
3 things you should ask yourself when buying a bleed control kitâŚ
â˘â â Does this kit have everything inside that you could need?
â˘â â Is this kit backed by recent and independent clinical evidence?
â˘â â How does the effectiveness of the contents of this kit compare to others?
If you are happy with all 3, youâve found the bleed control kit for you.
Currently, MERE proudly works alongside The Liam Taylor Legacy - RIP Fish, The Joe Dix Foundation, and Changelivesnotoknives. We provide our bleed control kits to these charities, to further their hard work in saving lives. The end goal is for all of us is to work together to make our streets safer.
There are lots of other great advocates of bleed control kits in the UK - a prominent figure within the bleed control sphere is Lynne, founder of The Daniel Baird Foundation. She has played a pivotal role in reducing knife crime across the UK and making our streets safer.
