Grass seeds are back !!

With the drier, warmer weather recently, we are starting to see those pesky grass seeds pop up everywhere.
Grass seeds are around in abundance at this time of year and will get worse as we head into Summer.

They may appear innocuous but they are small and sharp and can cause your dog quite a bit of pain.

At best they are uncomfortable for your pet, and at worst, they can lead to death.

Most commonly cases are grass seeds in paws,
ears and up noses.
However they can get under the skin and cause real issues.

They are hard to locate once under the skin and in worst cases can travel to the heart and lungs, when the outcome can be a very unhappy one…

Sob please do be aware of grass seeds when you are out walking with your dog.
Be sure to check your dog's paws, ears and fur after a walk.
They are most common in long grassy areas like meadows and woodland, but you can see them on the sides of pathways more and more.

𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗽 𝗮 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:

- Shaking of the head
- Limping
- Pawing at their ear
- Redness or swelling in the eye
- Vigorous and constant licking of paws
