Have you ever tried BokashI?
At the Open Doors Hub we have a 2 part workshop starting 18th April, at just £8 for both sessions!
Bokashi is a Japanese composting system that pickles your all your kitchen food waste, including that which you’d normally not want to put in your conventional composting bin (due to pests, bacteria). Bokashi, meaning “fermented organic matter” in Japanese, is an ingenious way of making use of your food scraps whilst being a perfect option if you have a small, indoor space. You’ll learn how it works, the science behind the fermentation process, and its applications for both your larger compost systems, or as a plant fertiliser.
In the first session, we’ll discuss what you can put into a bokashi bin, what the ferment is, and where you should keep it. We’ll have a bin available that we’ll load up with food waste and prepare it for fermentation.
In the second session, we’ll check on the waste that has been fermenting for the last two weeks. We’ll discuss what actually happens to it, why it’s safe to use (and rat proof if you then add it to your compost) and other applications in your garden or potted plants.
