‘From Session to Synod - exploring the Kirk’s disciplinary process’

Understanding the disciplinary process of the Church of Scotland can help us understand the records they created. Crucially, this can help us uncover our family history.

Help us at hand. At our conference on 4 September 2021 Margaret Fox, an archivist who worked for 12 years at the National Records of Scotland in Edinburgh, will present ‘From Session to Synod - exploring the Kirk’s disciplinary process’.

Just popping up from the 1700s this week to draw breath! I am thinking that I currently have two clients at polar ends of the World who may actually be related. Now that would be a small World!

I shared this photo taken when we took a wee hurl to Pittenweem. The money was raised by the Pittenweem Fishermen's Memorial Association (£75k) and the memorial is dedicated to all those men and women lost at sea. I posted it up on the Auld Fife and its People page and it has gone a bit bonkers. Oh, and there is a new blog post to catch up with on my website.

Find My Past launched another 9 million Scottish family history records to make their Scottish Collection the largest online. I was privileged to be invited to the online launch and I was pleased when my cousin Brian agreed to be one of the two celebrity speakers. This is a fantastic online resource and I look forward to having a few 'new' searches to add to my family tree.

Dundee-born actor Brian Cox has highlighted the importance of families knowing about their roots as he described the impact of the industrial revolution

Our Story

Family run genealogy/family history business. I live and work near Cupar in Fife. My interest in all things genealogy is an addiction. In 1996 my mother passed away and that was the catalyst to start investigating where my family roots lay. Like many, I have ancestors who not only came from Scotland they also came from Ireland and England, so far I have not discovered anyone from Wales!. Some of my ancestors emigrated to Australia, America and Canada and I am slowly finding the connections to cousins in these places. I welcome the opportunity to help people discover their ancestors through my business and as a volunteer in the local library.

I am the Chairman of Fife Family History Society, a charity registered in Scotland. As a member of The Scottish Genealogy Network and a regular contributor to #AncestryHour I have an extensive network of likeminded people all over the World. My research is predominantly using Scottish records, although I have recently undertaken work researching records in British India.

Please get in touch with me by email: scotsgenie@btinternet.com I hope to update my website and social media on a more regular basis.....it is just finding the time! Thanks for following me and don’t hesitate to comment or get in touch. Alison
