I’m a dietitian, and here’s how I’m using the results of my gut microbiome test with AMILI, a company using Asian datasets to build a more local and accurate picture of the microbiome.
My results showed lower scores in a few areas, especially fibre digestion and diversity. I’m not surprised as I’ve had a sensitive gut most of my adult life, and these patterns actually line up with what I’ve experienced day to day.
For me, this means making gradual, realistic adjustments that reflect what the research currently supports:
✔ increasing the variety of plant fibres I eat
✔ slowly adding in foods I don’t tolerate well yet (lentils, beans, chickpeas) so my gut can adjust
✔ staying consistent with fermented foods I enjoy
✔ aiming to support short-chain fatty acid production through diverse fibres
These tests cannot diagnose anything and the science is still very new. But the patterns were interesting and, in my case, quite relatable. They gave me a helpful nudge toward more specific approaches that would benefit my gut in the long run.
I’m excited to see where AMILI take their research next!
