Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help people to manage their problems by changing how they think and behave.
CBT is based on the idea that our thoughts, feelings and behaviours all influence each other. Sometimes, the pattern between our thoughts, feelings and behaviours can develop vicious cycles which keep problems like anxiety, fear, phobias and depression going. By helping people to understand these patterns and to develop alternative ways of thinking and behaving, CBT can help people to deal with their overwhelming problems in a more positive way.
Unlike some other talking therapies, CBT involves a lot of 'doing' in order to help you learn and practice new ways of coping.
CBT focuses on the present and improving things in the here and now rather than focusing on the past.
