I’ve just written a short article about something I see again and again with therapists.

Many of us come into this work because we genuinely want to help people. But being good at helping people doesn’t automatically make it easy to talk about what we do.

For years I found it quite uncomfortable promoting myself. I’d keep busy doing all the little jobs that felt like marketing - printing business cards, tweaking my website, redesigning leaflets.

I call it “productive faffing.”

All the tasks that avoid the uncomfortable bit - actually telling people how you can help them.
