🍒 A little bit of Friday Boobie Milk Myth Busting for you all! 🍒
A common misconception is that breastmilk is made directly from what you eat, but that’s not quite true! When you drink, eat or take medication it is broken down in the digestive system and some of the molecules are absorbed into the blood and then diffuse into breastmilk. Not all molecules are small enough to pass into the breastmilk and some are metabolised by the body for other uses and functions. There are many factors that influence what will actually enter the milk and in what quantity. This means that usually* you don’t have to eat certain things or avoid eating any particular foods when you are giving breastmilk.
*If you have concerns that your baby is reacting negatively to your breastmilk consistently and you suspect an allergy or intolerance, it is best to seek input from a Paediatrician and/or Registered Dietician.
