Samhain community Pilgrimage to An Grianán
(Not in sacred silence) all ages welcome!

Donations made to the Inishowen Rivers Trust are used to run projects that protect and enhance the rivers and natural waterbodies of Inishowen.

This event marks a full years cycle of our silent pilgrimages to An Grianán

Gathering on new moons
Full moons
Celtic festivals

Last year we started with a large gathering of people from the Derry/Donegal area who all met to walk in Silence to this sacred and inspiring sanctuary.
We all were carrying so much then and this is really the reason we started these pilgrimages, we always will be carrying so much.

We have moved through so much this last year of cycles.

Each cycle brought many challenges and we have been witnessing such difficult times globally and personally.

With so many astrological events happening this year, being intentional and ceremonial about our lives and what’s moving helps us navigate the energy that is rising and effecting our lives and the world.

(This horn is a replica of the horn of Ulster that was discovered in Antrim along with 3 other horns representing each province.
We have been sounding this horn at different gatherings around the island as call for unity and peace)

Join us to gather in community, in solidarity, in celebration and prayer.
For music, singing, poetry and sharing our experiences together.

New Moon – Silent Pilgrimage to An Grianán

Date: Saturday August 23rd
Time: 7:30 AM (Allow for 3 hours)
Meeting Point: An Grianán Hotel Car Park

Under the energy of the new moon, we gather in silence and reverence, walking together to An Grianán.
This is a time to pause, reflect, and plant seeds of intention, inviting renewal and alignment as summer begins to turn towards the harvest season.

What to Expect

A circle to witness our intentions before the pilgrimage, including gentle breathwork and visualisation meditation.

A silent ascent, allowing space for reflection.

A circle inside the fort to continue visualisation meditation and breathwork.

An invitation to remain in silence on the descent, with the option to break silence and share reflections with others.

A closing circle at the bottom to finish with words of gratitude and completion.

An optional breakfast together at Gap Coffee after the walk.

We walk to reconnect with ourselves, the land, and the sacred presence of An Grianán, opening to clarity, insight, and the quiet guidance of nature.

The spirit of the heather

The heather is in bloom
On the hills where the unseen rome
And the veil thins as the clouds loom
The liminal space ancestral spirits call home

The heather rooted and Irish weather suited
Shades the shadows of the mountains where they dip in and roll up
on and on and on
The heathers beauty cannot be refuted

The heather spirits presence is steady and strong
As she blooms along along on and on
The mountain sides and sways beautifully
Like purple waves flowing across
Over and through the sphagnum moss
Blown hard and relentlessly by the wind
But for ever rooted in our pete lands and national parks
For ever rooted in our hearts

The heather spirits form came through the page after a day spent in the beautiful hills north Donegal
