A family day at The Services Club in Desborough on Sat 8th Aug 2015 to raise awareness and much needed funds for the Group B Strep Support Charity Amanda Barnes

In January last year, our live were shattered and our dream of having another child was taken away from us when I became infected with a form of meningitis called Group B Strep causing labour at 25 weeks and ultimately our daughter, Mia was not strong enough to survive. She passed away 22 minutes after she was born. I also was extremely ill and may not have survived. As we learnt more about the GBS infection it became obvious to us that something has to be done about the current lack of knowledge of the condition within the UK, both by healthcare professionals and the general public. We were shocked to learn that the condition is not routinely discussed or tests offered during pregnancy consultations as in many other countries worldwide. With the correct antibiotics given to me during labour the infection would probably have been controlled and Mia would have at least had a chance of survival. That's why creating awareness of Group B Strep is so important to us, to do all we can to try and ensure other parents and their families do not have to go through the pain of the recent past that we, our children and wider family have endured and to support the fantastic work done by the official Group B Strep Support Charity. To show our support of the wonderful work done by the self-funded charity we will be holding various events locally in Northants, generally in and around our hometown of Desborough. This page will be continuously updated with details of the event.

Steve Sharman ran his 10k in 66 minutes and raised £47 for the day. Jodie Freeman correctly guessed the time and won Sunday lunch for 2 at the fabulous www.brownsoverhall.co.uk
