The Doncaster Cancer Support drop In Centre

The Doncaster Cancer Support drop In Centre A voluntary organisation providing support and advice on the emotional and financial issues associated with a cancer diagnosis.

We are currently able to provide one off grants for those in financial hardship. OUR FOUNDER MARIE CAYGILL WROTE... At the age of 45 in Nov. 2013 I was diagnosed with Grade 3 Breast Cancer. On diagnoses I was sent away with a treatment plan that included 3 lots of surgery, Chemotherapy, Radiotherapy & Hormone therapy. I was given various leaflets explaining the procedures & treatments I was facing and there side effects, however I was never given a leaflet to explain the enormous impact this diagnosis would have on my life. Emotionally, Physically, Mentally, Spiritually & Financially. Little did I know my life was about to change FOREVER! and not all of it for the better. My Mission for this Community is to provide along with the relevant services the following. Emotional support and guidance:

3 monthly drop in sessions which will be held at The Ragusa Centre, Ragusa drive, Rossington DN11 0YN. Our sessions run on the first and third Tuesday of every month 6pm until 8pm and the second Saturday of every month 11am until 1pm. its a safe place to talk with others to share experiences, hopes, fears and practical advice. To direct to counselling services available if required. To provide practical advice & to share experiences & ideas on combating side effects of treatments. Advice on wigs & headscarf fittings, make up etc. Diet
Coping strategies

Financial Advice and support. we are able to provide a one off payment of up to Β£300, this will be for a specific need that isnt covered by other charities. All we ask is that you attend one drop in session so we can determine what ammount of money will meet your need. We will also need a letter of diagnosis so we can release funds in a timely manner. Directing people to the relevant services for welfare, benefits & grants. Physical Support:

To provide a network of cancer buddies who will be willing to support cancer patience and their families in aspects such as Hospital visits, shopping or just a chat. All cancer patients will recieve a free luxury pamper bag filled with cancer safe products οΏ½

I had a message a couple of months ago from an 18yr old young lady... she offered support at our xmas event which i very happily accepted... now this young lady i feel deserves a special mention... its not very often you get young people giving up their free time to volunteer especiallywhen they dont know anyone.... Poppy Taylor you were amazing and we are extremely grateful for all your help.... now this message in no way takes away from all our other volunteers who gave up their free time, as I appreciate every single one of you ... and I love u all dearly 🩷.. I just wanted to mention Poppy as she asked off her own back, she came on her own, not knowing anyone and helped out for free, I think she deserves this mention πŸ₯°πŸ©· Poppy Taylor your a star πŸ’«

Our last sessions for this year are 🩷
Saturday 13th 11am till 1pm
Tuesday 16th 6pm till 8pm
Ragusa centre, Ragusa drive Rossington DN110YN
We welcome anyone affected by cancer, including friends and family. We offer emotional and financial support, this includes signposting to specialist services such as counselling, Reiki, alternative therapies and other charities and organisations. We also offer help completing benefit forms and Lasting powers of attorney... we also offer financial grants which are one off payments of up to Β£300. This can be discussed in your one to one...
What to expect? You can expect warm welcome, you will then have a one to one chat with our group advisors. They will assess how best to support you through your unique journey. You will then have the opportunity to meet others going through similar experiences. From experience I believe the peer support is the most valuable, I know this is daunting but trust me, it really does help 🩷... if you are unable to attend a session we can also provide home visits to those who need it ... so please feel free to join us at one of our sessions or contact Dawn for more information 07983108546 xx

WOW ... You lot are incredible!! Our Christmas event is our main source of income, so we try our best to make it a success.. we cant do this though without YOU πŸŽ‰...the money raised helps us ease the financial strain for local cancer patients in their time of need... I want to thank EVERYONE, from those who helped collect prizes, tombola items, kids toys etc, to those who kindly donated them!!.. there are way to many people to name individually but please know this message is for YOU!!!!.. we'd like to extend our thanks to the amazing bakers who helped us smash our cake stall total πŸ˜€... we also want to thank everyone who sold raffle tickets and of course those who purchased them... we also want to thank the Welfare for loaning the room for free πŸ™... and not to forget everyone who came and spent their hard earned cash on the day 🩷... My special thanks has to go to the volunteers who gave up their spare time collecting items, helping ticket the thousands of prizes (no exageration) and of course working their little butt's off from 9am till 5.30pm at the event.... many of our volunteers are cancer patients, so im sure your with me when I say they are true warriors!!! No words are ever enough when an event like this pays off, but im saying this with a heart full of love THANK YOU.. the total raised just topped last years at 2093.11 πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰My promise to you all who took part in one way or another is that every cancer patient that I get the honour to meet, will get the support they need 🩷 much love to you all, Dawn ###x
