Look at these gorgeous gorse flowers! I love their vibrant yellow colour and subtle vanilla like aroma.
Did you know these flowers are edible and can be dried and used to make tea or cordials? You can also add them to a salad.
In Irish folk medicine, it was widely used to treat coughs, colds, sore throats, consumption (tuberculosis), asthma, heartburn, hiccups, jaundice, heart problems, dermatitis, ringworm, swellings, and as a general tonic.
The flowers are used in Bach flower remedies as a nervine tonic for anxiety and feelings of overwhelm and hopelessness. Gorse flower is bright, joyous and strong, and can help recover confidence in our own strength.
And all this is readily available. Over the past year I have become more drawn and interested in foraging and looking at the medicinal properties of the plants that are around us. When you stop and look and break down conventional thought processes that these are 'weeds' or useless plants to have in your garden, do a wee bit research and realise you probably have a medicine garden of your own and natural medicine is actually all around us.
Isn't Mother Earth truly amazing? ❤🙏🌈🌷
