Most women are not thriving from cold water exposure 👀

I was that person for a long time - I would sea swim all through the winter, with frost on the sand and steam coming off the water, I would bob around until I couldn’t feel my limbs and I loved it. I also had insomnia, painful periods and blood clots which would make me gulp 🫣

Women are not small men. In order for our bodies to thrive and for regular, pain-free, healthy cycles and menstruation, our bodies, hormones and wombs need warmth, safety & softness

While the health benefits are numerous with cold water exposure, it is also fact that cold water puts a mahoosive stressor on the body, which is not ideal for the average woman in our society who is stressed and under-nourished, and may already be struggling with their cycles

Since switching from cold water to saunas, I will never look back and my cycles have thanked me too 🙏🏼 every woman is unique with what helps their body to thrive and for many, it may be ditching the cold water and for others it may be medicine ❄️

Your menstrual cycle provides you with SO many gifts ✨

The hormonal fluctuations in each of the 4 phases allow you to harness superpowers which when listened to and given the space to come out, will help you in being the power house of a woman that you already are

Tips for unlocking these superpowers:
✨begin tracking your cycle e.g when day 1 of your period starts
✨create a regular journaling practice to allow you to check in with where you are at
✨be prepared and confident to shift plans and your schedule according to your cycle and energy levels
✨prioritise good nutrition, sleep and movement

☁️ REST ☁️

How often do you put your period in your diary and prioritise that over making plans?

Your monthly bleed is the equivalent of your body moving mountains - energetically & physically, and when we don’t give our bodies the time to shed, let go and deeply rest, we come out of the other side feeling fatigued, burnt out and paying for it later on in our cycle (hello PMS and period pain)

The moment we start to prioritise ourselves and our rest, particularly on day 1&2 of our period, we create space for our body to let go and release, and in turn be able to show up for ourselves and others when we enter our follicular phase and the rest of our cycle

What rest looks like:
🧘🏼‍♀️ light movement eg. yin yoga, walking
🐑 extra sleep
🥐 slow mornings
🍜warming, nourishing meals
🫧 self care practices eg. essential oil baths, journaling

Resting on your period doesn’t have to look like locking yourself away for 5 days of every month (but if it does, f**k yes), it is just about making small incremental changes which give you more space to deeply rest in solitude

First Moon Circles aren’t just an experience, they are a ceremony for young girls who are stepping into the next chapter of their lives 🦋

They pave the way for girls to live in alignment with their menstrual cycle, have a positive relationship with their bodies and remember the day their period started as one which is positive, supported and empowering, rather than anxiety-inducing, overwhelming and shameful

If you would like to find out more about First Moon Circles, register your interest using the form in my bio 🌛✨

Your period isn’t late to the party, your ovulation is 👀

When our period hasn’t come and it was supposedly due 5 days ago, we often just assume it’s late, but more often than not, you likely ovulated late which has pushed back your period

Late ovulation can be caused by anything from travelling, to stress, to lack of sleep - our cycles are incredibly stress sensitive and if your body doesn’t feel as though it’s safe to ovulate, it won’t

Understanding your ovulation is key to understanding your whole cycle ⭐️ there are some simple ways to track ovulation, my fave being:

🌡️ basal body temperature - take your temperature as soon as you wake up, when you notice a spike in your basal body temperature, it is a good sign you have ovulated and entered the luteal phase

💦 cervical mucus - clear, egg white consistency cervical mucus is a clear sign you are in your fertile window and therefore ovulation is round the corner

Other ways of measuring ovulation are using leutenising hormone test strips (similar to pregnancy tests) and cycle tracking apps - however these can only predict based on algorithms

Life often doesn’t allow for essential oil bubble baths in your luteal phase, an intricate workout plan tailored to each phase and a shopping list measuring your macros and micros for every week

Cycle syncing is often over complicated and for the average busy gal, it really doesn’t have to be. It’s all built on the foundations of good health

All cycle syncing really asks of you is to have an awareness of where you’re at in your cycle, how that is affecting you physically, emotionally and energetically, and making tweaks where you can

Movement is medicine. Food is medicine. Sleep is medicine. Rest is medicine. When these are nailed, cycle syncing becomes easy

Hate your luteal phase? You aren’t alone

This phase gets such a bad reputation - women are branded as ‘emotional’ & ‘psycho’ and repeatedly told ‘someone is due on their period’ and therefore their voice is deemed invalid

Here’s the thing, the luteal phase is arguably the most potent phase of the menstrual cycle

The big emotions, the bloating, the cravings, they are all there to show you something, that something in your life is not in balance and you likely need to slow down

The rose tinted glasses come off in our luteal and we see things for how they really are

The anger your feeling is here to show you that your boundaries are being overstepped in your relationship

The anxiety at work is telling you that you need more support

The random sobbing is the deep sadness you have been trying to suppress and not feel for months

When we allow ourselves to truly slow down, listen and FEEL, this is where we harness the power of our luteal and our power as women ❤️‍🔥

Save this post for when you are next in your luteal 🍂

Every single woman should be lifting weights 3x a week and the older you get, the heavier you should be lifting

Lifting weights is one of the best things you can do for good hormonal health - it balances hormones, can help to reduce PMS, supports bone health and can massively support mental health 🧠

Powerlifting is also incredibly important for women entering peri-menopause and can support with symptoms that may be associated with this transition ✨

And who doesn’t want a nice big juicy 🍑

With autumn comes a shift in energy 🍂✨

Nature is beginning to slow down, the energy turns inward as animals prepare for hibernation and the leaves slowly fall, and as we are an intrinsic part of nature, this energy shift affects us too

Autumn can be likened to the luteal phase - it’s the call to take stock and rest up in the lead up to winter or our bleed 🩸

There are some simple ways you can align your activities to whichever phase of your menstrual cycle you are currently in, as a way to honour the change in seasons and bring some mindfulness to your cycle

Like this post and save it for some autumnal inspo x
