Whilst the NHS access route is not yet a clear path, we are committed to producing the highest quality products at affordable prices. We will also work diligently to allow our patients to be research heroes - giving them the tools to generate an evidence base that will hopefully support greater access for generations to come. Thanks to Aimee for sharing her story with us for our Cannabis People series: Cannabis has enabled me to become a more active member of society allowing me to return to college to obtain a degree and part-time work. Endometriosis and other chronic illnesses cause me debilitating chronic pain and fatigue which cannabis alleviates immensely. It has allowed me the reduction in pain required for me to campaign relentlessly for other patients to have safe access to cannabis medicine. I am eternally grateful for the quality-of-life cannabis provides for me.

Discovering medical cannabis has opened new doors for me. It’s only been the past couple of years that I’ve gotten to discover so much more about the plant as a whole & different ways to use it. I have two chronic illnesses and have tried nearly everything to help keep my pain levels down and symptoms at bay, but when your illness has no cure it can be really difficult to be “okay” mentally with taking prescription meds. I realised one day that I don’t have to just accept that. Without my illness I’d never have the knowledge or understanding that I do now of cannabis, I’d not have crossed paths with a lot of people I now consider friends, and I wouldn’t have the resilience that chronic illness so truly gives you.

Health is wealth and knowledge is power, you are your own best advocate and the answers aren’t always there in front of you. Sometimes you have to seek them out for yourself.

Accessing your medicine isn’t always a great retail experience. For some that means waiting for hours, unsafe locations, no customer service or accountability…

It shouldn’t be a scary, frustrating, or anxiety inducing process, but for some people that is their lived reality. We believe that together we can do better.

We also understand that some people are perfectly happy with how they currently access their medicine, and that’s fine… We want everyone to feel that way!

All patients should be able to access their medicine when they need it, in a way that works for them without any stress or worry.

That’s why we’re always listening to patient stories and suggestions on how to make access to medical cannabis safer, easier and less stressful.

Dan shares his story with us as part of our cannabis people series: I live in Northern Ireland. It's beautiful, but like many others, it's been very hard for me to gain access to the right help, mostly in regards to education about cannabis.

I suffered from severe depression from a young age, and developed migraines after being attacked by an adult after school and having the bridge broken above my nose. I developed glaucoma, so the use of cannabis relieves this along with the migraines. As time has gone by, I’ve developed chronic pain in my back. This is the reason I currently qualify for a Cancard.

The use of cannabis helps me to live with pain, depression and migraines while giving me a sense of well being and belonging on this earth.

Seven years ago I started getting back chest infections from the toxic w**d that was available here. I was forced to grow my own for the health and safety of myself and others, although I have been arrested for this on two occasions. I was honest with the police and educated them about medicinal cannabis, as they were in my house for a while. I was taken to a maximum security prison for having three small plants. I didn't know when I would get out, I had no phone call, no solicitor and nobody knew where I was. I ended up in a cell with a he**in addict and he gave me oxycodone. I didn't feel like I was getting out anytime soon, so I felt helpless. It was extremely tortuous there, so I took it.

So in the end, I was ruined for a few years as I lost my job over this. I had become really ill due to the drugs I took in there, and malnutrition due to the horrible living conditions with drug addicts and violent offenders. I hope nobody else has to go through that over a plant in the future.

I can now lift my children up, teach them gardening and how to grow their own food.
Cancard has helped alleviate the pain of going through the most difficult part of using cannabis, law enforcement.
