I love visiting a church at Christmas. The extra flower displays, nativity scenes and candlelight services, make them so special. It's also a time when churches get their most visitors.

So lets hear your favourite go to church during the festive season. Do you love a christmas tree festival? Or do you prefer a quiet space to contemplate. Are you at midnight mass, or singing your heart out at a carol service?

This week has been all about supporting churches.

1. Apotropaic marks in Warwickshire, warding of evil spirits. Supporting a church exploring future conservation opportunities.

2. St Peter's Church Hartshorne kicking off my role as evaluation consultant on their The National Lottery Heritage Fund restoration project (the energy here blew my mind!)

3. Celebrating the volunteers who have made the first year of their NLHF funded mosaic restoration project such a success at Friends of Sacred Heart Church Droitwich Spa.

No rest this weekend either as I am back at Scared Heart for their Christmas crafternoon aimed at sharing the mosaic heritage with families, with a festive spin!

Absolutely lovely to see our church buildings and communities flourishing, being relevant and supporting heritage.

It can be scary thinking about attracting more visitors or engaging new audiences. So here are 3 things you can think about doing

1️⃣ Consider what tour/ talk opportunities you can offer. Groups like WI, U3A, local history groups are planning where they will visit in 2026 now! Start advertising now!

2️⃣ Identify who your current audiences/visitors are and pick out 2 or 3 new groups you want to target. Then approach local organisations who work with these groups. Explore how you can work together to develop a meaningful partnership.

3️⃣ Audit your social and digital media. Do the images and words you are using reflect the audiences/visitors you want to work with? For example are there pictures of families visiting and enjoying themselves, if you want to attract families?
