STRAK Allied Health Thank you for visiting! I always try to stand out with my treatments by finding the root cause of the problem.

My name is Marcin, I am a registered physiotherapist (The Health and Care Professions Council UK) and I would love to offer my services, knowledge and years of experience to residents of Dumfries and surrounding areas (20 miles radius). I take pride in helping clients to understand their condition and provide individually adapted treatment options so that people I care for can regain confidence and the control over their health and wellbeing. I promise you will not be offered only a symptomatic treatment which works only for a period of time and leaves you in a position where you need to seek help again. I graduated from Physiotherapy course with Masters degree, I worked in private and public healthcare systems in the UK and Australia, where I also expanded my knowledge and skills with postgraduate courses. I have particular interest in neurological and vestibular physiotherapy (treatments of dizziness and vertigo), musculoskeletal issues (back pain, shoulder pain etc.) and rehabilitation of older adults (balance issues, deconditioning). Currently, I offer home visits on selected days only with a view to start seeing some clients in a clinic in new year. Do not hesitate to get in touch should you have more questions!

Mr MacKellar Prepares for 10 Marathons in 10 Days

Mr MacKellar would like to thank everyone for their kind donations and support. After completing over 600 miles of training since 1 January, he is ready—and, strangely, excited—to begin his incredible challenge of running 10 marathons in 10 days.

He is taking a few days to rest before starting on Friday and is looking forward to seeing some familiar faces along the route.

If you are down at the Whitesands between 4 and 13 April, you’re likely to spot him at some point, as he will be running roughly six and a half laps a day—totalling 70 laps across the challenge. Below is his planned schedule:

Run Schedule
Friday, 4 April – 2:00 pm start
Saturday, 5 April – 10:00 am start
Sunday, 6 April – 2:00 pm start
Monday, 7 April – 10:00 am start
Tuesday, 8 April – 2:00 pm start
Wednesday, 9 April – 10:00 am start
Thursday, 10 April – 2:00 pm start
Friday, 11 April – 10:00 am start
Saturday, 12 April – 2:00 pm start
Sunday, 13 April – 10:00 am start

Each marathon is expected to take around four hours, though this may vary depending on conditions.

We wish him the very best for the challenge and look forward to cheering him on throughout this incredible journey.

"Dizziness is an independent predictor of future falls in older adults. These findings emphasise the importance of recognising dizziness as a risk factor for falls and implementing appropriate interventions"

Dizziness related to impaired function of the vestibular apparatus can be successfully reduced with tailored and specialised physiotherapy intervention.

Dizziness is common in older adults, especially in those attending falls services. Yet, the extent to which dizziness is associated with future falls has not been reviewed. This systematic review and meta-analysis assessed the association between ...

Advanced Vestibular Physical Therapist Certification achieved! ✅

I cannot express enough what an absolute pleasure it was to participate in such an excellent postgraduate programme delivered by the University of Pittsburgh. It took almost a year of study but the last module which took place earlier this year in Pittsburgh was an experience which I will never forget.

Meeting like minded and super passionate vestibular physiotherpists as well as world's top researchers of the subject was an utter privilege! Thank you once again!

I am so glad I will be able to use all the skills and knowledge gained to provide even greater quality of treatments and help my complex dizzy patients!

A great resource for all suffering with chronic pain, it explains brain's mechanisms of pain interpretation and allows to understand why our bodies get into hypersensitive mode.

You can also reach out to others who have similar problems with chronic pain, learning from someone else's experience can give hope and guidance in getting things back on track.

Winter is here, let's do our best to stay active and maintain fitness through the next few months ❄️❄️❄️🏋️‍♀️🤸‍♀️⛹️

Cold weather may encourage some people to stay indoors more but just two weeks of reduced physical activity causes older people to lose significant amounts of muscle, prompting academics to urge them to keep up their step count throughout the winter.

30/10/2023

❗️❗️❗️🔥🔥🔥❗️❗️❗️

It is well known that we all slow down during winter months, lack of energy, short days and poor weather often do not encourage us to go outside and keep active.

It is particulary bad for older adults who lose significant amounts of muscle only after 2 weeks of reduced activity! This sadly contributes to progression of their chronic issues they might be having like arthritis, osteoporosis, poor balance etc.
We really age faster in winter!

Do you have a parent who might be in this situation?
Treat them and book a comprehensive physiotherapy assessment to help them substitute their normal outdoor activities with individual exercise programme tailored to their needs to maintain their level of fitness this winter. ❄️❄️❄️

In return you will be able to book a 45 min remedial massage for yourself and an assessment of your spine half price!!!

It's easy to take your health for granted, very often we all tend to prioritise other things. The truth is that most of us will experience some back pain at some point and in some cases it will lead to permanent diability at later life. Thankfully, the prevention of serious issues can be simple but very different for each individual.

Come for detailed assessment and learn how you can avoid future spine problems from experienced physiotherapist.

We all have been affected by pandemic one way or the other. Despite lockdowns and majority of disruptions being gone, a lot of us have been left with aftermath of limited opportunities to exercise and spend time outdoors.

We all heard the news of record 2.5 million people in UK being economically inactive due to long term sickness.
Unfortunately, a lot of those are due to working from home, often with poorly set up work stations leading to sharp increase in chronic lower back cases.

Gradual return to activities and improvement of quality of life is definitely achievable for most. In my practice I have seen a lot of people who seek immediate help only in acute phase of pain, neglecting long term benefits of structured therapy focused on building up the resilience of their bodies. This always leads to recurring episodes of sharp pain and activity avoidance which is a vicious cycle. You can stop it with the right help.

Allow yourself to invest in your wellbeing by working on detailed therapy plans based on the most up to date research. It might be easier than your think!
