TIME TO REMEMBER MEMORIAL SERVICE

NHS Tayside, in conjunction with NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT), is hosting our annual "Time to Remember" Memorial Service for those in Tayside who are donor families, transplant recipients, medical and nursing staff, and local supporters of organ and tissue donation.

Members of the NHS Organ and Tissue Donation Committee decided they would like to offer those affected by organ and tissue donation an opportunity to come together to remember and reflect on those who have been generous in making this life-saving gift to others.

We would like to invite you to this Memorial Service on Thursday 21 May 2026 at the Chaplaincy Centre, University of Dundee, Cross Row, Dundee DD1 5HG. The service is planned to be around 45 minutes in duration and will start promptly at 7.00pm (those attending should be seated by 6.45pm). Refreshments will be provided afterwards.

If you would like to attend, please email Angie Roberts (angie.roberts1@nhs.scot) by 10 May 2026.

We do hope you will be able to join us.

Mr Sam Riddell
Chair of NHS Tayside Donation Committee

The Renal Service marked World Kidney Day with a very successful information stand in the main concourse. Many thanks to everyone who helped out.

Thursday 12th March is World Kidney Day, a day when we celebrate those who have donated their kidneys and remember those who are waiting for a life-saving kidney transplant.

Last year, over 2,000 organ transplants were kidneys, but there are still almost 7,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant today.

Sadly, the reality is that someone will die waiting for a kidney. By confirming your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register, in just 2 minutes, you could end up saving a life.

We would like to say a massive thank you to Jennifer, the daughter of our late renal patient William Burton, Jennifer popped into our renal department today with the kind donation of £580 to be split between ward 22 and the renal dialysis unit. Jennifer shared some stories with us of William's renal patient journey and praised the renal team for the care provided to William over the years. Jennifer also donated 75 freshly made cakes for all staff in the service to enjoy with a cup of tea.

Last week, representatives from NHS Tayside’s Renal and Supportive Care teams joined Kidney Care UK at a national roundtable event focused on the emotional and social impact of living with chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Consultant nephrologist Dr Natalie Mordi, Dr Claire Douglas from the Renal Supportive Care Team, and two Tayside patients took part, sharing real‑life experiences of kidney disease and the day‑to‑day challenges it brings.
The session created an important space to:

💙Hear directly from people living with CKD
💙Highlight the need for better access to specialist psychological and social support
💙Discuss how healthcare teams across Scotland can continue improving person‑centred kidney care

Evidence shared at the event showed the significant emotional toll of CKD and the importance of ensuring people have the right support at the right time.

NHS Tayside is grateful to our patients and staff who contributed their expertise and lived experience to help shape improvements in kidney care across Scotland.

Most of our Ninewells and Arbroath patients will know Morgan, one of our HCSWs. Shes about to undertake something your editor here is well past - the Edinburgh Marathon - so dig deep, this is a very worthy cause.. I'll leave it to her to explain in her own words...

"Not something I ever thought I would say.....I am running a marathon!!
I am doing it in support of kidney Care. Four years ago I began working in renal, our amazing patients face so many challenges day in day out. They have taught me, we can do hard things! I will be running in support of them.
Any donation is so greatly appreciated❤️"
