ℹ️ Content note: This post discusses suicide and men’s mental health. ℹ️

Four in five suicides are by men. Suicide remains the leading cause of death for men under 35.

Behind every number is someone’s mate, brother, dad, son, or workmate, and far too many of them are struggling in silence. Men are often taught to “man up” or keep things to themselves, but bottling it up only makes things heavier.

But mental health challenges don’t discriminate. Stress, anxiety, depression, and burnout can affect anyone, and for many men, it can feel hard to reach out or know where to start. That silence can be deadly. This Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, we encourage you to continue checking in on your mates, listening without judgement, or opening up about how you’re really feeling as it can make a huge difference. Talking doesn’t make you weak, it helps you heal, and it could save a life.

A fab local support group for men

Sometimes, being a man can feel like being a ghost.

We bury our emotions deep inside, haunted by the unresolved trauma of life’s battles.

Behind the smiles, the jokes, and the laughter, many of us carry hidden scars — pain we never speak about.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.
Andy’s Man Club is here for every man over 18.
It’s a safe place to talk, to listen, and to be heard — no judgment, no pressure, just support.

We meet every Monday from 7 to 9 pm (except bank holidays).
Come along and experience the magic of being part of something real —
because you’re not alone, and you never have to be again.

Today marks World Suicide Prevention Day and we are encouraged to consider how one conversation can change your life.

I would encourage you to think about that invitation not as a challenge to seek somebody who may be contemplating suicide but as a reminder that each and every conversation we have is with somebody who may be in need of a listening ear, some reassurance, a kind smile or a reminder that they are okay and everything will be okay.

In many of the conversations we have on behalf of Megan’s Space there is one consistent similarity, and that is that a very high percentage of people share with us their own experience of personal challenge or personal loss.

They also share with us how one person listening and talking helped change their lives for the better.

So for today and every day, please remember you can make a difference.
You do make a difference both for yourself and for the other people whose lives you touch.

It’s okay to ask. It’s okay to listen. It’s okay to reach out. 🧡 Today and every day your words matter, your support matters, you matter.
