💜 Introducing Balance Within 💜

For years, I became a dab hand at putting on a brave face. On the outside, it looked like I was thriving, climbing the career ladder in the non-profit world, from Marketing Assistant to CEO, and eventually business owner.

People saw the smiling photos in the papers or online. They saw the success.

But the truth was very different. Behind the scenes, I was navigating life with Psoriatic Arthritis Mutilans (PsAM), a chronic autoimmune disease with a shockingly poor prognosis, while carrying constant pain, exhaustion, and repeated burnout.

I stayed quiet about it, knowing it would affect my career and my ability to earn what we needed to live. Back then, vulnerability was most definitely seen as weakness in the workplace.

So I kept pushing on.

Then, after 17 years of traditional medical approaches that weren’t working, something remarkable happened. In 2009, I went into full remission from a disease that had no possible cure - then or now - and I’ve stayed that way since.

Not because of one treatment or drug regime, but by weaving together therapeutic and holistic practices that supported my physical and emotional health. Over time, they helped me find the space within where the healing ability of my body had been hidden under years of stress.

In 2011, just as I had gotten used to living pain-free, life tested me again. I was a single parent raising two children, working hard to keep the wolf from the door. There were countless times I felt completely overwhelmed.

And yet, the same practices helped me breathe, find balance, and build a new way to live and work, even when life didn’t turn out the way I had expected.

Over the past 14 years, I’ve trained in integrative coaching, clinical hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT, meditation, nutrition, and relaxation techniques. In my therapy practice, I’ve blended these tools into a way of working that meets each client exactly where they are, helping them find solutions that fit their lives and circumstances.

And now, after supporting hundreds of people while also working in other roles, I’ve freed up more space to focus on this work. From the 1st of October, I’ll be taking appointments under my practice’s new name: Balance Within.

Through Balance Within, I work with women who are carrying it all, the work, the family, the caring responsibilities, and the invisible load no one sees.

They’re the ones everyone leans on. The ones who look strong on the outside, but inside feel exhausted, anxious, unwell, or close to burnout.

I know that place well. And I know what can help.

That’s why my work is about creating space to let go of the weight you’ve been carrying and helping you build a plan to return to yourself, with more confidence, more energy, and more balance.

What a gorgeous day! Long lie in after a busy week and a long walk after getting the house into order. Does yours go up the left when you’re busy with work or is it just me??! Then I had a go at a Makhani veg curry. Turned out really nice. Daniel also ate it so it must have been ok. Getting as much veg and anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric, ginger and cinnamon into me as possible is one of my aims in 2024 and this sort of cooking makes it quite easy. I’m no Delia Smith but I’m getting better!!

So sunny in the sunny south east today on the beautiful Ballinesker Beach in Wexford. Much needed vitamin sea was had. Beach was packed with people and dogs and a few horses. Fabulous! Next time I’m going in.

So Sailor is a cross between a Yorkie and a Bichon. Apparently. I think he’s a cross between a Rottweiler, a Pomeranian and some form of a gun dog. He barks at the slightest sound and will attempt to eat from where the sound comes from - human, animal, plant, he takes me for a walk rather than the other way around and if there’s a hole he will go into it. Every hole in the hedge as they say!! I’ve given up trying to get a good walk in with him.

Worked up an appetite today walking Sarah’s two golden Irish pups. So mucky in Parkanaur Forest today though we also went off-piste so it was inevitable! There doesn’t be many opportunities to take pics when trying to stay on your feet. Strong dogs the Golden Irish. Half retriever and half red setter. Saft as room temperature butter but born to run!

Rest and sleep is so important to help the body to recover, rejuvenate and heal. I hope this weekend you get the chance to do both. The way my system works I know immediately when I haven’t been prioritising both - my body tells me very quickly! So this weekend I’ll sleep and rest and sleep and walk and read and maybe cook a bit.

After a blustery and wet start to the day we decided to stay in and read and eat and enjoy some family time. Not often I have the two poppets at home together these days so it was lovely to just relax without the to-do list screaming at me. Did the body no harm either to just rest!
