Hello, I’m Freya — the therapist behind Private Reflection Therapy in Retford.

If you’ve never tried therapy before, or if you’ve had difficult experiences in the past, I want you to know that this space is different. It’s built around you.

I work integratively, which means I draw from a range of therapeutic models to meet your individual needs. Sometimes that means gently exploring patterns from the past; other times, it’s about finding practical tools to help you manage what’s happening right now.

And sometimes, it’s simply about sitting together with whatever you’re feeling, no fixing, no pressure, just space to be.

The Christmas period can pull us in a hundred directions, lists, gifts, gatherings, expectations. It’s easy to feel like you’re falling behind or not doing enough. But presence, not perfection, is what truly matters.

Presence isn’t about having a calm mind or a picture-perfect Christmas. It’s about gently returning to now, over and over again.

🌿 Breathe. Let your inhale and exhale remind you that you’re already here.
🌿 Notice. The twinkle of lights, the sound of laughter, the warmth of a cup in your hands.
🌿 Pause. Before buying, planning, or reacting, take one breath. Ask what really matters.
🌿 Feel. Your heartbeat, your gratitude, the love that doesn’t need to be wrapped or bought.

If it feels hard to slow down, it’s not a sign you’re failing, it’s a sign you’re human, and you’re trying.

“I’ve been there too.”

Before I was a therapist helping others navigate burnout and emotional exhaustion, I experienced it myself.

Burnout doesn’t show up with flashing warning signs. It creeps in slowly:

You say “I’m just tired.”

You keep pushing through.

You forget what rest even feels like.

But there’s a point where your body, your mind, and your heart say: enough.

That’s the moment I knew I had to stop treating burnout like something to be ignored and start treating it like the wound it really is.

Now, as a therapist, I offer the kind of reflective space I wish I had at the time:

Firstly, take a big deep breath.

Practice this a couple of times - this helps calm your central nervous system, lowering your levels of stress.

👉Overstimulated means a state of being overwhelmed by excessive sensory input or mental activity and here is a couple of simple steps for when everything is just a little too much.

1 - Take a break, find a quiet, calm environment to give your mind and body some rest.

2 - Continue focusing on your breathing, in through your nose and out through your mouth... give it a little go now!

3 - Limit sensory input such as turning off or down volumes of electronic devices and dimming room lights.

4 - Engage in a calming activity such as reading a book, going on a walk in nature, practising mindfulness in the form of meditation.

🌿Everyone's overstimulation can vary, so it is important to find one that works for you in managing your feelings of overwhelm.

When the UK government’s mental health services told me, ‘it’s pathological, it’s not curable,’ I felt completely abandoned.

🍃They medicated me for my anxiety, depression, and insomnia, but left me to ‘figure it out’ on my own. But I refused to accept that—so I pursued a psychology degree and found my own way to healing.
