🚨 BURNS NIGHT SUSPENDED — NATIONAL HAGGIS DAY DECLARED 🚨
In a historic announcement this morning, following last week’s Wild Haggis Rebellion, the Scottish Government confirmed that January 25 will now be observed as National Haggis Day, marking a major cultural shift in how the nation approaches its most iconic dish.
A spokesperson for the Greater Highland Haggis Council said:
“We appreciate poetry.
We respect tradition.
But we draw the line at ceremonial consumption.”
Under the new policy, Burns Night has been “paused” until further notice, and the following temporary measures will be introduced nationwide:
• Haggis will be celebrated — not eaten
• Address to a Haggis has been replaced by Apology to a Haggis
• Bagpipes will play soft, reflective tunes only
• Neeps and tatties will remain, but only “as a respectful accompaniment”
And in a move described as “non-negotiable”, the haggis have requested the traditional main course be replaced with Tunnock’s Teacakes, served ceremonially, on a platter, like the nation intended.
Supermarkets across the country have already reported mass panic-buying of Teacakes, as Scots attempt to show goodwill without causing further diplomatic incidents.
Meanwhile, councils have begun removing ceremonial swords from Burns Supper venues “as a precaution.”
The rebellion is over.
The haggis have won. 🏴
