An easy go too scapegoat for problems, but is it a problem?

Personally I think no for the most part but it can cause problems in certain situations - when this happens then an intervention needs to come into play, but for the most part the body is smart enough to adapt

A big take away from my time working with is that a problem isn’t a problem, until it causes one.

Not everything needs fixed, it maybe needs managed or modified but correct movement can look so different for everyone

IF APT does cause you issues, there are many ways you can be biased towards becoming more “neutral”

Well over two years now working with the big fella through long preps and CNS self destruction, it’s been a please to be in his corner for all things rehab and recovery alongside his S&C work with

Ross is second to none in terms of grit & work ethic, especially while being on the tools full time

REHAB IS JUST TRAINING ✔️

In “rehab”, we use the same principles of strength and conditioning; progressive overload, specificity, adaptation and periodisation. The only change is that the exercises are tailored to your current capacity, your injury, and tissue tolerance.

When you understand rehab as training, it removes the thought process of “being broken” and becomes targeted training within the body’s present biomechanical limits.

The goal is the same, just the goalposts change for a period of time

Last Appointment with this AM before he heads off to Dubai 🇦🇪

Over two years of working with him, initially to get back being able to compete in Powerlifting after 12 months out with a low back issue

Ended up meeting one of my best mates & a friend for life

INCREASING FUNCTION > STRETCHING

If an area feels overly tight constantly, this is usually a symptom rather than the actual problem

A good example would be in the trap & rhomboid. If the arm struggles to move & stabilise laterally or rotate upwards, then the surrounding tissues will create mechanical tension to create movement & stabilise the joint

Over time this strategy is ineffective & the tissues will stay locked on if the body doesn’t trust the joint to stabilise without tissues providing support

Identifying what movements cause this & fixing it is a far better strategy than stretching something that might not need more mobility - it most likely needs more stability & motor control 🧠
