Sadly my beautiful girl Tiny passed away on August 13. If ever a human had a spirit animal, she was mine. Tiny was a kind, gentle, brave-hearted giant who watched over me during my early days in Scotland, and throughout my husband’s passing this year. Tiny was incredibly devoted not only to our family but especially toward children and the elderly in our neighborhood. Kids routinely stopped by our front garden just to give her a cuddle and a “clap.” Older folks felt totally at ease around her because she was so calm and gentle. She was a neighborhood celebrity, known for her beauty and grace toward humans.
Tiny’s story as I know it began in a kill shelter located in a remote area of southern Spain. I first spotted her in a Facebook post from an animal welfare group called Save a Mastin. I knew I wanted to adopt a gentle giant in need so I watched their feed daily for available dogs. When I learned of Tiny and her nature, I instantly fell in love, and applied to adopt her. A dear network of animal welfare volunteers and professionals rescued her from the shelter, fostered her in Spain, and drove her to the UK where a doggy transporter delivered her to us.
When she emerged from the caravan, she was even more stunning and magnificent than Simon or I could have ever imagined. She slept the whole way home in the back seat of our Dasher, and we lived happily ever after.
Though I am heartbroken and miss her terribly, I am forever grateful to the late Amanda Frost, Juan Miguel Ballester Piriz, Karen Macdonald, Paws Pet Transport , Save a Mastin and others that made this dream a reality. Please consider adopting. There’s a Tiny patiently waiting for you to scoop them up.
Rest in peace, beauty.
