Aija's Psychotherapy

Aija's Psychotherapy Welcome! I'm Aija, a counsellor specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy(CBT) (book your online session or visit www.mentalhealthcounselling.co.uk). Hello!

This page will provide resources, insights, and support to empower you towards a healthier mind! 💜 I’m a dedicated psychotherapist passionate about helping individuals navigate their emotional landscapes and achieve personal growth. My journey in psychotherapy stems from a deep desire to understand the human experience and foster resilience in others. I find immense fulfilment in guiding clients as they uncover their strengths, confront challenges, and develop healthier coping mechanisms. Witnessing the transformation that occurs during the therapeutic process inspires me every day.

**What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?**

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a structured, evidence-based approach to psychotherapy that focuses on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT helps individuals identify and challenge negative thought patterns and beliefs that contribute to emotional distress. Through this process, clients learn to develop healthier thinking and behavioural strategies, leading to improved emotional well-being. During CBT sessions, you can expect a collaborative environment where we will work together to set goals, explore specific challenges, and implement practical tools to facilitate change. Sessions typically involve discussing your experiences, identifying unhelpful thought patterns, and practising new ways of thinking and responding to situations, and setting up homework. If you’re interested in embarking on this journey of self-discovery and healing, I invite you to reach out. Please feel free to email me aijaspsyhotherapy@gmail.com to schedule an individual psychotherapy session. I’m here to support you every step of the way!❤️

✨ Tips for Autistic Well-Being ✨

I'm doing some training in autism, which is brilliant. Decided to share this post 💜

🍬1 in 100 people in the UK are thought to be autistic
🍬approximately 50% of autistic people have additional learning disability
🍬1 in 3 autistic people have a mental health disorder
🍬7 in 10 autistic children and young adults report that they would enjoy school more if teachers understood autism
🍬only 21% of autistic adults are in paid employment in the UK
🍬70% of autistic adults report not receiving support

Living as an autistic person in a neurotypical world can be challenging, but there are ways to make life easier and more fulfilling. Here are some recommendations:

💪 Daily Well-Being

✅ Establish a Routine – Consistent daily habits can help reduce anxiety and create a sense of stability.
✅ Prioritize Sensory Needs – Use noise-canceling headphones, weighted blankets, or fidget tools to manage sensory overload.
✅ Set Realistic Goals – Break tasks into smaller steps to make them more manageable.

🧠 Emotional & Mental Health

✅ See a CBT Therapist – Cognitive-behavioral therapy can help with managing anxiety, emotional regulation, and social interactions.
✅ Practice Mindfulness – Meditation and breathing exercises can improve focus and calm your mind.
✅ Self-Compassion – Be kind to yourself and celebrate small wins.

🤝 Social Connection

✅ Find Your Community – Join online or local support groups where you can connect with others who understand your experiences.
✅ Communicate Your Needs – It’s okay to let others know what accommodations help you feel more comfortable.
✅ Quality Over Quantity – Focus on a few meaningful relationships rather than trying to fit in everywhere.

❤️ Self-Care & Joy

✅ Engage in Special Interests – Spend time on activities that bring you joy and fulfillment.
✅ Set Boundaries – Protect your mental health by saying no when you’re overwhelmed.
✅ Celebrate Your Neurodiversity – Your unique way of experiencing the world is a strength!

You deserve to feel happy, supported, and accepted — exactly as you are. 🌈

💜 **Understanding Counselling vs. CBT** 💜

Hi, my beautiful people! Today, I’d like to shed some light on a topic often surrounded by confusion: counselling and its relationship to psychotherapy, especially Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Majority of people using google are looking for counselling but what they really are looking for is psychotherapy 🤷‍♀️

🌟**Counseling vs. CBT**
Counselling and CBT are forms of psychotherapy aimed at helping individuals improve their mental health, they differ in approach and focus.

🌟**Counselling** is generally used as a broader term for psychotherapy. However, counselling as therapy practice encompasses various therapeutic practices. It often involves exploring feelings, thoughts, and behaviors, focusing on personal growth and emotional processing. In counselling, the goal is to create a safe space where individuals can express themselves and gain insights into their challenges. Counselling as Person-centred therapy pioneered by Carl Rogers is non-directive way of talking therapy.

🌟 **Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)**, on the other hand, is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that specifically addresses patterns of thinking and behavior. CBT helps individuals identify negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more constructive ones. . CBT, however, originated in the 1960s from behaviorist principles and cognitive psychology, developed primarily by Aaron Beck. Combining different approaches it has come long way and has been acknowledged as most effective and evidence based therapy with a high success rate for different mental health problems. One of the reasons why I love CBT is a clear structure and goals. It is still talking therapy but more focused on perception, thinking errors, feelings and behaviours, and becoming aware of them can make a big difference👌😁

It’s essential to clarify that while people often think of counseling (or psychotherapy) as merely giving advice, true therapy is not about telling someone what to do. In therapy, the focus is on self-discovery and understanding rather than advice-giving.

Both counseling and CBT can be incredibly beneficial, and understanding these distinctions can help you find the right path for your mental health journey. If you're considering therapy, think about what you're looking for and don’t hesitate to reach out to a professional who can guide you.

🌟 Your mental health matters, and seeking help is a courageous step! Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences in the comments💜

2. **Set Boundaries:** Learn to say no to commitments that drain you. Protecting your time is key to maintaining mental clarity.

3. **Practice Mindfulness:** Take a few moments each day to breathe deeply and focus on the present. It can help clear your mind and reduce stress.

4. **Limit Screen Time:** Take breaks from digital devices to prevent mental fatigue and stay connected to the world around you.
