There's more to Easy Iron - Stength and Fitness coaching than simply lifting weights; as a martial artist with a competitive background in Judo, Brazilian Ju-Jitsu and Muay Thai, I like to use my coaching experience in fighting to introduce sparring fitness, drills and kickboxing training to my clients. It can be daunting and exhausting at first to learn how to jab and combo, defend yourself, be aggressive, create angles and believe in your own ability, but to a T, every client, even those with no previous fighting experience, has said it's the most fun they've had training with me.

Since his first session in September, his weight has gone from 196lbs to 175lbs, his squat and deadlift have increased by 50%, his body fat has gone from 25% to under 15% and his favourite fancy belt doesn't have any holes left for him, so he's going to have to make new ones. ☹️

I think he's even starting to enjoy the battleropes!

Perhaps most importantly, he hasn't changed what he eats. He eats exactly the same things he did before, just in proportions related to his fitness goals. He still cooks stuff in butter, he still eats from the chipper now and again. He still bakes delicious chocolate cake - only now he gives some away (πŸ‘) .

He works out 3 days a week. Sometimes 2. He even had two weeks off. He'll never be a slave to the gym or eat like a rabbit. But he's made some good life choices, he's listened, he's questioned, he's learned.

I often hear this old chestnut - "I'm too old to lift weights", "I can't squat, I have bad knees." "I can't deadlift, that's for young people!" This line of thinking is absolute hogwash.

This is Joan MacDonald - 70 years-old, lost 50lbs and gained a ton of strength and fitness along with it. Look at her! Amazing! As well as stealing her photo, I'm going to steal her motto too - "you can't turn back the clock, but you can wind it back up again." Follow her in the usual places and be inspired. πŸ™‚

As for my clients, I never encourage or force anyone to do anything they don't want to do. What I am guilty of is trying to open people's minds, broaden their horizons and help them realise they're far more capable than they think or feel. πŸ’ͺ

Nothing beats a clean studio first thing in the morning. Set up for first indoor client of the day - strength coaching followed by a 15-minute HIIT - nothing blows out the cobwebs like interval training. Fact of the day: 15 minutes HIIT is as beneficial as 45 minutes of steady-state cardio. πŸ™‚
