✨WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE RHESUS NEGATIVE?! ✨
It is really important to know your blood type when pregnant.
I have rhesus negative blood, which, even after three pregnancies, a LOT of jabs, countless information leaflets, conversations with doctors, midwifes, consultants - I still struggled to actually understand what it meant?!
🤷🏻♀️ I knew it was important, I knew I needed extra injections, I knew i had to spend hours in triage if i fell over.. but I didn’t really know why….
💁🏻♀️I have since scoured all said leaflets and NHS sites to break it down here for - please do SHARE / SAVE / TAG anyone you know who is Rh-D negative and may find it helpful.
🩸 If you're Rhesus negative, this means you don't have a substance called the Rhesus antigen (a protein) on your blood cells. If your baby is Rhesus positive, your blood is incompatible and if any of your baby’s blood crosses the placenta into your blood stream, your body will instantly produce antibodies that recognise the foreign blood cells and destroy them. This does not harm you as a mother, but could potentially cause issues for the baby.
