Welcome to Elvina's Osteopathic Clinic. I am on osteopath with over 10 years of experience in the field and enjoy my work. Since qualifying as an osteopath trained classically, I have undertaken many courses among which is Cranio-sacral Therapy. This is a nice gentle and relaxing treatment that can help to treat a variety of conditions like migraines or deep seated emotional issues. I myself like to treat taking a full person approach by which I mean that I am looking where I can beyond just the pain you come in with but also to your lifestyle and the influences it has on your pain.

How did you go and what where the different generations like?

So as you get older the fast twitch fibres slow down by practicing balancing you will start to activate the system. the more you practice it and the longer you can balance for initially Statically and then with moving a leg or arm about the better your reactions are likely to be so that in the event you do trip, there is a change that your body will try and stop you falling as all these muscles and reactions should be able to kick in and stop the fall as you may have been able to do 20 years ago.

If you can try and build up to 1 minute on each leg.

Please share this and the previous post with any elderly people you know who may benefit from it and remember to let me know how long you can balance for on your right and your left and if there is a difference.

IF I get dementia, I’d like my family to hang this wish list up on the wall where I live. I want them to remember these things.
1a. Every time you enter the room announce yourself. “Hi Mom- it’s Margaret.”
NEVER ask- Do you know who I am??? That causes anxiety.
1. If I get dementia, I want my friends and family to embrace my reality.
2. If I think my spouse is still alive, or if I think we’re visiting my parents for dinner, let me believe those things. I’ll be much happier for it.
3. If I get dementia, don’t argue with me about what is true for me versus what is true for you.
4. If I get dementia, and I am not sure who you are, do not take it personally. My timeline is confusing to me.
5. If I get dementia, and can no longer use utensils, do not start feeding me. Instead, switch me to a finger-food diet, and see if I can still feed myself.
6. If I get dementia, and I am sad or anxious, hold my hand and listen. Do not tell me that my feelings are unfounded.
7. If I get dementia, I don’t want to be treated like a child. Talk to me like the adult that I am.
8. If I get dementia, I still want to enjoy the things that I’ve always enjoyed. Help me find a way to exercise, read, and visit with friends.
9. If I get dementia, ask me to tell you a story from my past.
10. If I get dementia, and I become agitated, take the time to figure out what is bothering me.
11. If I get dementia, treat me the way that you would want to be treated.
12. If I get dementia, make sure that there are plenty of snacks for me in the house. Even now if I don’t eat I get angry, and if I have dementia, I may have trouble explaining what I need.
13. If I get dementia, don’t talk about me as if I’m not in the room.
14. If I get dementia, don’t feel guilty if you cannot care for me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It’s not your fault, and you’ve done your best. Find someone who can help you, or choose a great new place for me to live.
15. If I get dementia, and I live in a dementia care community, please visit me often.
16. If I get dementia, don’t act frustrated if I mix up names, events, or places. Take a deep breath. It’s not my fault.
17. If I get dementia, make sure I always have my favorite music playing within earshot.
18. If I get dementia, and I like to pick up items and carry them around, help me return those items to their original place.
19. If I get dementia, don’t exclude me from parties and family gatherings.
20. If I get dementia, know that I still like receiving hugs or handshakes.
21. If I get dementia, remember that I am still the person you know and love.”

ᴄᴏᴘʏ ᴀɴᴅ ᴘᴀsᴛᴇ in Honor of someone you know who has or knew who had dementia. In Honor of all those I know and love who are fighting or who lost to Dementia/Alzheimer’s. 🙏🏾

With age or reaction time gets slower generally. This in turn leads in some to trips and falls.
But ......... there is something you can do to help yourself and it is never to late to start.

Practice Balancing.

This does not have to be anything strenuous just stand up and lift one foot slightly off the ground and see if you can stay there.
Let me know how long you manage and what the difference is between your right side and your left side.

If you feel very unsteady then please stand near a wall or a table but no cheating to lean on the wall or table.

Once you have done it test it out on the older and younger members of the family too.

This is something I have been practicing for a while now and something I try and get my mum to do as well.

Let me know your times please.

As the weather changes joints will start to stiffen up a little as we start to brace ourselves to go outside for the cold weather. why not try a stretching routine this winter and see if it helps keeps the aches and pains down a little.

Stay mobile and stay warm.

You woke up a few month ago with a stiff neck and it went away, but there is the occasional ache now and then since that. Now you are starting to get pins and needles down the arm maybe while asleep or when awake or both. They may not be constant but they are definitely there.

I am looking at the scenario of a trapped nerve here. It is something that can be treated osteopathically through a combination of articulation, mobility, massage and manipulation.
