Over the past two weeks I’ve had the privilege to teach both refresher and full 👆Hypnobirthing classes to two really lovely couples, in my own home 🏡
•
I don’t always get to teach from the comfort of my living room, but when I do, I love it ☺️❤️ Setting the scene; lighting the nice smelling candles, arranging a vase of fresh flowers for the table, plumping up the cushions - it’s all part of making my classes an event. And that's just what your birth should be, the ultimate intimate event.

Wherever you're going to give birth, be that at home, in a birth centre or in an obstetric unit; do whatever you can to OWN the space and feel as COMFORTABLE and RELAXED as possible. Candles, be they wax or battery operated, are great for creating a cosy, inviting light 🕯The main hormone involved in labour and birth; oxytocin, is notoriously shy in harsh, brightly lit environments.
•
Smell is also key. Pregnancy can suddenly give you the scent perception of a young Bloodhound 👃🐶 If you've struggled with nauseous and sickness, or even hyperemesis gravidarum, you’ll know certain whiffs can be intolerable triggers, whereas others can actually provide some relief. If you love the smell of fresh bed linen pack a freshly laundered pillowcase or cosy throw to use in hospital. Essential oils such as Lavender, Rose or Camomile are brilliant for relaxation. A few drops in an electric oil burner will have an unfamiliar room smelling heavenly in next to no time 🌹🌼🌸
