My Very Real Birth Space:
This isn’t your picture perfect birth space. There’s toys lying around, there is some clutter on the sides (there is a potty hidden behind the chair that you can’t see).
But this is Home Birth.
This is birthing in a place where your body feels safe and secure. Where you are familiar with your surroundings, the smells, the sounds.
My kids toys will give me a welcome oxytocin boost in the more difficult parts of my labour and being around my everyday will regulate my nervous system and send my body into it’s parasympathetic state to allow it to focus on what it needs to do - birthing my baby.
How will my birth space function?
- A large area (based around our Totter and Tumble play mat which is f****** amazing for riding out contractions on FYI) for freedom of movement during labour
- A birth and peanut ball to assist with biomechanics, comfort & movement
-Rebozo to assist with comfort during contractions & to assist with biomechanics and baby positioning if needed
- Dimmed Fairy lights and Galaxy light to support my melatonin levels (a key hormone during the labour process) & create a general, relaxed vibe.
- A separate space for the birth pool. I’m very keen to have a large, convenient area for mobility during labour, so being able to have the birth pool separate from this (whilst still in the same room for all the vibes) is super handy. Providing there is time to fill it, this will be where I push my baby out and will be the biggest player in my pain relief choices.
Things you can’t see in the picture: Biomechanics wall, birth plan, list of important instructions (inc phone numbers) for my birth partner to prepare once labour starts.
Now, bring on the birth 💪🏼 👶
Edit: You can DEFINITELY SEE THE POTTY 😂😂😂😂
