My Very Real Birth Space:

This isn’t your picture perfect birth space. There’s toys lying around, there is some clutter on the sides (there is a potty hidden behind the chair that you can’t see).

But this is Home Birth.

This is birthing in a place where your body feels safe and secure. Where you are familiar with your surroundings, the smells, the sounds.

My kids toys will give me a welcome oxytocin boost in the more difficult parts of my labour and being around my everyday will regulate my nervous system and send my body into it’s parasympathetic state to allow it to focus on what it needs to do - birthing my baby.

How will my birth space function?

- A large area (based around our Totter and Tumble play mat which is f****** amazing for riding out contractions on FYI) for freedom of movement during labour

- A birth and peanut ball to assist with biomechanics, comfort & movement

-Rebozo to assist with comfort during contractions & to assist with biomechanics and baby positioning if needed

- Dimmed Fairy lights and Galaxy light to support my melatonin levels (a key hormone during the labour process) & create a general, relaxed vibe.

- A separate space for the birth pool. I’m very keen to have a large, convenient area for mobility during labour, so being able to have the birth pool separate from this (whilst still in the same room for all the vibes) is super handy. Providing there is time to fill it, this will be where I push my baby out and will be the biggest player in my pain relief choices.

Things you can’t see in the picture: Biomechanics wall, birth plan, list of important instructions (inc phone numbers) for my birth partner to prepare once labour starts.

Now, bring on the birth 💪🏼 👶

Edit: You can DEFINITELY SEE THE POTTY 😂😂😂😂

Coercion in maternity care is rife. It seems insane that this happening right? Why would medical professionals be pushing care on families that isn’t appropriate/needed/wanted?

Simple answer? Policy, litigation, time pressures.

Complicated answer - deeply imbedded patriarchal, societal issues in how women & birth are viewed and treated every single day.

1 in 3 women are coming out of the system with some form of birth trauma. Much of that trauma doesn’t stem from the birth itself, but the way in which women were treated, coerced and felt like they lost control of their care within the maternity system. If you are pregnant, or hoping to be one day, I implore you to get yourself educated on the system, your birth rights and choices. Learn how to make evidence based decisions rather than blindly agreeing to anything that is “offered” to you by the system. And most importantly, learn how to advocate for those rights and choices (and get your birth partner to learn how to do this as well).

We are in a maternity crisis - taking a run of the mill NCT course and then forgetting about it simply isn’t enough.

Your Birth rights & experience matter more than you could ever imagine.

Exclusive: Birthrights report says women are being told they are ‘not allowed’ and are being denied genuine choice

LAST BUMP&BABY COMMUNITY COFFEE MORNING - WEDNESDAY 4TH MARCH, 10AM-11AM at

I can’t believe this baby is going to be here in just a few short weeks!

It would be lovely to see as many of you as possible before I take a few months off whilst we settle into life as a family of 5!

Providing all is well, the community coffee morning (as well as courses and work shops) will be returning sometime in May/June 2026 with a brand new mascot in tow.

Hope to see you there 🥰 ☕️ 🤰

The weeks a rolling by quicker than anticipated.

The appointments continue but all seems well and I’m thankful my care team are currently supportive of my birthing choices.

Now to try to enjoy and relax (somewhat 🙈) during these last few weeks.

Ahh another fun couple of weeks.

My current mindset is to be thankful I am all clear for Pre-Eclampsia and that my blood pressure is stable. Multiple appointments every week to monitor my blood pressure is, however, intense.

I now face the battle to get HCPs to actually listen and pay attention to my knowledge of my own body and take my home blood pressure monitoring seriously.
I cannot begin to explain how thankful I am to know how to advocate for myself and birth choices. This last couple of weeks has reminded me how things can change, especially in the mind of the system, in an instant (or the time it takes to perform a blood pressure reading 😬).

I am also thankful for my wonderfully supportive community midwife whose care has remained woman centred throughout the whole of this and has not once tried to treat me like a trust policy tick box. ❤️

Big shout out to all the Midwives who always put the birthing families at the centre of what they do 🙌

Coffee morning is unfortunately cancelled this morning due to misbehaving blood pressure causing a lengthy evening in Triage. A follow up with the midwife this morning is required.

Sorry to all that were hoping to make it ❤️

I’m in the third trimester now so the “planning” part has gone up a notch.

Still plagued with tiredness and now a bloody shoulder injury (oh and a fun little resurgence of nausea which can only be cured by Ham and Cheese Toasties 🤦‍♀️), it’s been an interesting few weeks but we are getting there.

It’s also just dawning on me I’m actually going to have 3 children in a few weeks 🙈😂

What a wonderful jam packed gathering of bad ass mothers that joined us today at our community bump and baby coffee Morning at .

We were joined by the amazing Gemma from .cotswolds who was able to chat to lots of our c-section mums about their experiences and the incredible work she does to support scar and muscle recovery.

I can’t wait for Gemma to join us again later in the year. Keep an eye out for dates.

Thank you to everyone who joined us - it was lovely to see the coffee shop buzzing with baby and toddler energy (sorry Nikola and Rob 😂).

Our next community coffee is Wednesday 28th January, 10am-11am at . Pregnant families, babies, toddlers, older children and grandparents all welcome.

PS: Anyone who knows my two little nutters, will know they are pretty much singly handedly responsible for the mess all over the floor 😂 🤦‍♀️

Finally, we have our wonderful Bump and Baby Coffee morning which runs every other Wednesday at brewbearcoffeehouse in Evesham.

Our next coffee morning is on Wednesday 14th January 10am - 11am and we will be joined by the wonderful Gemma from revive.cotswolds who will be joining us to chat about all things C-Section recovery. If you are due to have a c-section and have questions about recovery, have had a C-section recently, or are still struggling with your c-section scar a few years down the line, a chat with Gemma will be invaluable.

See you there!
