We are delighted to have re-branded our Functional Health and Nutrition Practice from Zmedclinix to Gut HQ as it aligns better with our focus on helping our clients recover from chronic conditions that often stem from gut health.

As we step into the new year we have some exciting plans which are already in place and being developed:

Health Network Hub (HnH)

We have launched a pilot local networking group for health and well being practitioners called Health Network Hub (HnH). This is a group of professionals that meets once a month at the Bel and Dragon Pub in Churt to network, support each other, share best practise and refer business within a trusted community of professionals. We have plans afoot to bring this into the community to inspire others to take a proactive, preventative step to improve their health. From Nutritionists to homeopaths, to reflexologists, together we are stronger 💪

Mould HQ

We are setting up an information based website called www.MouldHQ.com which we hope eventually will become a charity to support families in exceptional circumstances remediate and heal their health and home from the toxic effects of mould. Approximately 25% of people are very susceptible to mould exposure and it can cause very damaging and far reaching effects throughout the body systems if not treated. We aim to support that to help people back to better health.

A welcome ban on advertising junk food before 9pm and online comes into force today, a much needed move to try to curb childhood obesity.
Junk food is also a major cause of inflammation, causing a host of health problems, this is such good news!

The government hopes a ban on junk food adverts will prompt manufacturers to develop healthier recipes.

Very excited to share that the UK research project to trial a new way of diagnosing CSID, and then developing a better way of treating it, has now finally been approved and is going ahead!
The project is looking for the following participants, who will receive a basic remuneration and expense package:
- those with confirmed CSID through biopsy and /or genetics
- over 18
- resident of mainland UK

If you fit this criteria please contact the research team on MS-genmalcarb2@nottingham.ac.uk, please also just drop a comment below if you are interested

It's a wonderful way to help shape the future of this condition and will also help determine if you have the genetic form.

Another day, another hospital...as time ticks on we are trying to piece together Our daughter's unique jigsaw puzzle to try to figure out why she is still not really thriving... latest attempt is for my blood to be tested for rare Alpha-1 Antitrypsin deficiency which we know she has, and in fact we all have. My mutation is so rare it has to be sent down to Spain to figure it out.
We hope that this will bring us one step closer to figuring out how to help Millie....

‘But she looks so well….’

(Said with *that* knowing glint in the eye) Ug. How I wish I had my portable punchbag with me sometimes.

I'd be rich if I gave a penny for every time I hear this.

What I want to say is..'Yes she does...and that's because you don't see what goes on behind the scenes. It's because I work tirelessly to provide this child with food that sometimes she eats but most of the time is pushed away. She is as well as she can be on a massively restricted diet of five foods. We nurture her as best we can.You don't see the crying, the clinging, the tears and the fights as we have to change another nappy whose contents are burning her. The upteenth time that I get kicked, very hard, because I'm the nearest one to her on the changing mat and she is hurting. A lot.
And that smell!! Ok no poo smells of roses but these are reminiscent of putrid rotting matter that should never ever have to be associated with that little peachy bot. Ever.'

But I don't. I smile (again) and just nod in agreement.

Knowing full well that another person is a) weighing up the possibility that I might be making it up or b) wondering if actually I need to see a shrink...because she looks so well."

An excerpt from the blog of a mummy of a rare disease child patient.. This is the sad reality of raising a child with a rare Metabolic condition.

That mummy was actually me and the child was Millie. Sadly I could write this all over again as the battles continue. The only difference is the battles have changed slightly and can be harder.

One of the very positive things to have come from this experience is that I can reach out to families with children in a similar position, with empathy and understanding. I can also help considerably to improve the health of the child.
