Our colleague Kris has been working with the Head Groundsman at Częstochowa stadium (SW Poland) for the last year and they have utilised our ProloNg® technology granular fertilisers all season; they are very happy with results
The Lobster Shop are committed to reduce waste and make use of all the products we can arising from our shellfish processing where possible. Our initial goal was to use the Lobster & Crab shells for a garden fertiliser, however, upon researching this idea we came across fantastic work being done by Martin Cessford of Angus Horticulture. Martin and colleagues have been looking at utilising shellfish waste as a means to improving soil health for several years. The composting of shellfish waste, and subsequently used as a soil improver has a range of benefits including the natural control of Potato Cyst Nematode (PCN). This pest is a significant problem for potato growers, particularly as pesticide options for managing PCN have been reduced over recent years. The chitin present in shells acts as a food source for beneficial microbes in the soil, which subsequently attack the cysts of PCN, allowing natural control to occur at a much faster rate than usual.
We are delighted to be supplying Angus Horticulture with the shells so they can continue their trials and potentially have a great soil health improver ready to combat PCN and other soil-borne pests and diseases of crops, and continue the growth of great Scottish tatties to accompany your seafood dishes for years to come. https://www.thescottishfarmer.co.uk/news/18744695.can-shellfish-turn-tide-pcn/

We are delighted to be able to introduce our new European Sales Manager, Kris Misiaczynski.
Kris brings with him a wealth of experience, having throughout his career been involved with golf courses right from the initial design project, overseeing the building and ongoing maintenance once established. Amongst many things, his most recent achievement was at the Estonian Golf & Country Club, where he assisted in organising the European Tour Longest Drive. Kris is a firm believer in natural greenkeeping by trying to minimise the use of chemicals. Kris was founder member of the Polish Greenkeeper Association and also still holds the post of Vice President of the Estonian Greenkeeper Association, I am sure you will agree, Kris will be a most valuable asset to the company and we are delighted to welcome him to the team!

What to do if (and when) the government bans the use of chemicals on golf courses and sports fields?
We have the solution; Macmillan Methodology allows for chemical free courses even in harsher climates. Estonian Golf and Country Club has been chemical free for several years under Macmillan Methodology. They along with Estonian Greenkeepers Association organised an Autumn conference for greenkeepers and sports turf managers from Nordic countries to discover how excellent sports turf is possible without the use of a single pesticide.
Ian MacMillan explained how to use soil biology to build plant immunity and allow plants to deal with harsh Nordic winters without the use of harmful chemicals. It is also possible to breed poa annua out of your putting surfaces using nutrition and plant biology. With delegates from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Estonia learning about chemical free solutions it was an exciting trip for Stephen Appleton from Angus Horticulture.

With record beating temperatures for the region, Derek has undertaken a range of seminars and activities which will allow us at Angus to better understand green keepers’ requirements for turf nutrition.
