How I Relieved My Toothache Using Shiatsu and TCM — Without a Trip to the Dentist!

A few days ago, I started feeling a dull toothache in one of my upper left molars. I decided to wait a bit, thinking it might pass, but after a few hours the pain hadn't gone and I didn’t have any painkillers at home. So I decided to try and heal it myself with my knowledge of Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

I began massaging the acupoints along the side of my face, tuning in to where I felt blockages. Interestingly, I had also been experiencing twitching and redness in my left eye for some time - another sign of imbalance.

After a couple of days of focused self-treatment, the tooth pain completely disappeared. I could chew comfortably again and finally enjoy a full night’s rest without discomfort.

My Self-Diagnosis: Stomach Heat (Stomach Fire)
In TCM, the stomach meridian travels upward through the body and passes through the gums and teeth - particularly those in the upper jaw. Because of this energetic connection, any excess heat or “fire” in the stomach can rise along this pathway and affect the mouth.

When that happens, the rising heat can inflame the gums, leading to pain, swelling, or bleeding - a pattern known as “Stomach Fire Attacking the Gums.”

By working on the stomach channel through Shiatsu, I was able to release the blockages, cool the internal heat, and ultimately relieve the toothache naturally. Fingers crossed, no trip to the dentist :)

I am always amazed at how many of my clients have had their Gallbladder removed and I often get asked... "How can you be working on Gallbladder meridian when I don't actually have the physical organ?"

The truth is the emotional imprint doesn’t leave with the organ, you might still feel pain, symptoms or emotional patterns tied to it. That’s because your body doesn’t just store tissue. It stores information.

Even after removal, the energetic field of the organ remains,
and the frequency of unresolved emotions can stay active.

The main functions of the Gallbladder system in Chinese medicine are to store and release bile created by the liver and regulate digestion. When Gallbladder energy is out of balance, some common conditions might be gallbladder disease, liver disease, digestive disorders, muscles aches and pains, tight tendons, rigidity, eye disorders, migraines, headaches, dizziness, ear disorders, menopausal symptoms, chest or rib pain, difficulty making decisions, impulsiveness, conditions that occur on only one side of the body.

Energy doesn’t disappear. But it can be transformed. If you are experiencing stress, stiff shoulders, migraines, pain in the body, book in for a Shiatsu session to rebalance your energy system. Call or message Sarah on 07515 684306.

“Why can’t I just let go?”
Your colon might be trying to answer that for you.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine and emotional healing, the colon isn’t just responsible for physical elimination, it’s tied to our emotional ability to release.

If you’re holding on to grief, guilt, perfectionism, or fear of change
your colon may reflect it with symptoms like constipation, bloating, or pain.

These aren’t just digestive issues, they’re emotional messages asking to be heard. Your body wants to let go. It just needs your permission.

I help you let go of stored emotions through the healing touch of Shiatsu where you are supported and nurtured through the process of release.

Download my free hints and tips on how to look after your large intestine and how holding on to emotions affect our physical body and my story of overcoming perfectionism.

Our Story

Shiatsu is a hands on traditional Japanese massage therapy and works on the same principles as Acupuncture helping to release blocks that cause us pain within the body. Unlike western style massages, Shiatsu is based on the principle that energy flows like water through the body in a series of pathways called meridians. Sometimes the energy (ki or chi) flow is disrupted and we may experience discomfort such as muscular pain, headaches, digestive disturbances, PMT, menopausal symptoms, swelling, skin irritations, excess mucous, foggy headedness, memory loss, stress, anxiety, irritability and other emotional imbalances. Stress and emotional upset affects the health of our physical body, which affects how well we can deal with daily life. Taking time for a relaxing Shiatsu treatment gives your body an opportunity to release the daily stresses that build up over time.
