What is Samhain?

Samhain (pronounced more like ‘sa-wayne’) is the name of the old cross-quarter festivals - half way between the autumn equinox and the winter solstice. 🌞🌝

Marking the final harvest and the shift into winter. It’s thought to have been seen as a time where the veils between between worlds become thinner - a time for connecting to the ancestors and spirits, for giving thanks and wishing for wellness through the dark months. An old Irish story tells of Jack wandering a world between with his turnip lantern - the origin of the tradition for carving pumpkins 🎃

It’s festival of transition; fire, feasts and offerings - looking to both the future and the past. Marking the turn into winter is the perfect time to slide in for a sauna to warm your soul. Our Samhain event with and on Sunday’s fully booked, with a waitlist open - send us an email if you’d like to be added to that.

🔥 Help build our new Community Sauna in Frome!

Since opening in Sept 2024, the team behind Wildcat Community Sauna has welcomed people from all walks of life to experience the mental, physical & social benefits of sauna + cold plunge.

🎯 Goal: £32,000 to replace our current larger sauna with a more spacious and sustainably designed sauna

Why this matters:

• More space = more capacity for groups and different events
• More numbers helps us to invest in developing local partnerships, social prescribing and a community led programme

Your support pays for:
🪵 Materials: stove, benches, insulation, cladding (using reclaimed where possible)
👷🏽‍♀️ Skilled labour & construction costs
🔨 Safety features + solid, sustainable design
✨A beautiful new sauna for Frome

🌈 In September, we celebrated Wildcat’s 1st birthday with a glorious day of rainbows, hot sun and wild showers. It was great to transform the space outside full of bunting, making and music.

🐅On the day we had original Wildcat artist with his mobile screen print set up; Wildcat family member Shirley, brought her Daemon & Doppelgänger clay workshop making wild spirits; sauna regular Teilo of Restroom Records played us tunes, and gifted a luscious pink vegan cake for all to share 💗

Hot news…

We’ll be bidding a fond farewell to the sauna in Shepton Mallet after this weekend, tomorrow will be our last time lighting the fires there - but don’t worry… 🔥

We’ve had a wonderful time at Rock Farm and are happy to say that the sauna-seed Wildcat has planted will be tended to by someone else. We’re passing the torch forward soon and will keep you posted when we have an update for you.

Thanks to everyone who’s visited us over the past months, it’s been a pleasure to meet you all and we’re glad that the sauna will be staying in Shepton 🍁

There’s still time to join us for a sauna 🩵 we’re open until 7pm this evening and between 10am and 5pm tomorrow.
