Understanding your lower back pain and common myths out there:
️⃣ Scans Don’t Tell the Whole Story: Research shows that many people without pain have “abnormalities” (bulges, wear and tear) on MRIs. These are often “wrinkles on the inside.”
️⃣Movement is Medicine: Strong evidence supports early movement and exercise over bed rest for most types of low back pain.
️⃣Red Flags vs. Green Lights: Identifying when a scan is actually needed (rare) vs. when physical therapy is the first-line treatment. Red flags include abnormal bowel and bladder movements, saddle anaesthesia, pain going down both legs, alongside pins and needles and motor loss. See a health professional to get a full history taken.
️⃣ The Biopsychosocial Approach: Addressing sleep, stress, and lifestyle alongside physical movement.
