To all the friends, followers, customers and supporters of Shallochmill Stud I’d just like to say a great big thank you 😘
2025 was filled with fun starting off with five healthy foals arriving safely, ponies left the Mill to new homes in Wales, England, Ireland and Shetland and previous graduates were out winning flying the flag for Shallochmill.
I ventured out to a few shows where the ponies did me proud including winning strong classes and a junior championship at the Royal Highland show.
Sprites youngstock continue to do well in the show ring but it’s pleasing to see younger boys Luigi and Ranger having babies out collecting red rosettes now too.
With five stallions working in the summer the 2026 foaling season is going to be an interesting one with hopefully some more future champions 🤞🏼
And let’s not forget the two mini donkey foals born later in the year. A pair of mischief makers one has already nearly broken the internet with his video going viral being viewed over 21 million times. Mental.
The ponies continue to gain admirers who adore their personalities with very few, if any, visitors heading home without becoming addicted.
I do hope everyone enjoys the photos and videos I post showing the ponies in their natural states and the antics they get up to.
I thoroughly enjoy these little people and I hope you all do too.
From Stuart, myself and the Shallochmill herd Happy New Year ###

Loving the dry spell and still doing well on just grass and a mineral block the more mature girls are thriving. I’m starting to see some definite foal tummies which means there’s only a few months to go until foaling time. Fingers crossed we don’t have too much of a harsh winter for the remainder 🤞🏼

This is the moment Shallochmill Yogi found out his new wee brother, Shallochmill Sherbet had come to stay ❤️
Yogi left for Northern Ireland this time last year and has spent the summer winning at almost all the shows he’s attended . His owners Julie Mawhinney and Rachel Coffey have had so much fun they came back for another pony choosing Sherbet this time.
By champion stallion Jambarrie Loan Ranger and out of my unshown mare Shallochmill Pic N Mix, mother to my Highland show winner Shallochmill Tutti Frutti I can’t wait to see how this confident little man does in the ring.
Best of luck boys 🏆 xx

On Saturday I attended the Winter Fair at Lanark mart with three homebred girls. Two were pulled out the field on Wednesday so I was delighted they tidied up as well as they did. All three behaved beautifully and trotted up well despite this only being their second show ever but unfortunately weren’t to the judge’s liking ☹️
Shallochmill Charlotte, 3 year old was 4th out of 4 🙈
Shallochmill Tutti Frutti, yearling was 3rd out of 3 🙈🙈
Shallochmill Ruadh rounded off the day with a 1st out of 2 😂
So, back to the drawing board, home to scrutinise my ponies and decide how to improve then chill for a few months before I start it all again next year 🤦🏻‍♀️
Thank you to Jane for helping and some pics.
Thank you Sarah for the photos too x

The boys. Probably the last day this year I’ll see them dry and fluffy.
When I used to show jump I always preferred mares, I just loved their personalities and attitude. Since having these little guys I think I’m now a fan of stallions. They are so affectionate, clever and fun little people to have around.
They see my car coming from miles away, run to the gate not for sweets, although I do take them carrots, but just to come say hi and get a fuss.

Finally, a sunny day to see the girls dry, fluffy and shining. Such a relief after weeks of rain. I think they look well heading into winter.
Fingers crossed this weather holds for a wee while 🤞🏼

For two whole weeks I’d been watching the cameras 24/7 waiting for our final donkey to foal. Her due date was October 21st so I’d been hopeful she’d foal before I headed to Worcester.
Alas that was not the case but I had very capable helpers in the shape of Lorraine who has foaled, lambed, calved, etc before and of course Stuart who has been present at a few births now.
I finished my dinner at Worcester, checked the camera to see Buffy walking round her box so I kept watching then messaged Lorraine who was also tuned in and had spotted the change in behaviour.
She shot to the yard, Stuart was assisting and I was ‘supervising’ over FaceTime with, of course, the vet on speed dial but thankfully the birth itself was straightforward.
Mum wasn’t keen to let the foal nurse but Lorraine got him latched on and Stuart gained husband brownie points getting up through the night to keep him drinking.
By Saturday evening she was letting him drink and all was good.
By Gamlingay Double Gold out of Shallochmill Buffy this little lad has already found a forever home and will head off with his brother in the spring to Wales.
