We’ve welcomed a lovely new hedgehog house to our grounds, generously donated by Aaron Douglass from EcoRest and Earthbond Memorials. It’s now settled under one of our trees, facing towards our Tempus Fugit scattering garden, creating the perfect quiet spot for our little hedgehog neighbours to rest and stay safe.

This thoughtful addition is another step forward in our wildlife-focused ESG work, helping us support the natural ecosystem that makes our grounds so special. From the birds in the hedgerows to the hedgehogs moving through the undergrowth, every creature adds life and character to this place.

A heartfelt thank you to Aaron for helping us nurture the environment we care so much about. It’s lovely to see our gardens continue to grow in both beauty and biodiversity.

This little pigeon tucked itself under one of our vans today, finding a bit of shelter from the rain. A simple moment, but one that said a lot.

We all seek shelter in different ways. Sometimes it’s a place, sometimes it’s a person, and sometimes it’s just a quiet moment where we can catch our breath. Watching this wee bird reminded us that there’s no shame in stepping out of the storm for a while.

If you’re having a tough day, let this be a gentle reminder to find your own bit of shelter when you need it. And if you can offer that shelter to someone else, even better.

Stay warm, stay dry, and look after yourselves and each other.

This morning brought the most ethereal calm to our Caledonia Memorial Garden. A soft veil of mist settled over the paths and hedgerows, giving the whole space a quiet, almost otherworldly stillness.

Moments like this remind us why this garden means so much to so many. It’s a place where nature wraps gently around memory, where every breath of morning light feels like a quiet blessing.

For anyone visiting today, we hope you find the same peace in the mist that we did. There is something truly special about starting the day here, surrounded by beauty, reflection, and the softest touch of the Scottish morning.

The Hurlet Crematorium is delighted to donate £10,000 to The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice through its membership of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management’s Recycling of Metals Scheme.

Crematorium Manager, David McNaughton, said:
“It is an honour to support The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice with this donation, helping them continue their vital work for families in our community.
The cost of providing hospice care keeps rising, yet these remarkable organisations rely heavily on charitable donations to sustain their services. We are deeply grateful to every family who has given permission for metals to be recycled following their loved one’s cremation. It is a simple act that makes a real difference. Every piece of metal contributes to supporting people at some of the most difficult moments in life.
We are proud to take part in this scheme. Since opening, we have been able to donate £32,300 on behalf of the families a significant amount to local hospices, helping to fund essential services and compassionate care for those who need it most.”

Josh Munns, Head of Fundraising at The Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice, said: “We are truly grateful for the ongoing support from The Hurlet Crematorium and to all those involved in the scheme. This donation makes a significant difference to the lives of our patients and their families and helps us to keep on caring. Thank you.”

David McNaughton added:
“Care, compassion, and supporting our local community are at the heart of everything we do at The Hurlet Crematorium. Being able to honour people's loved ones by supporting hospice care brings comfort to the families who give permission for metals to be donated through the ICCM scheme. Their kindness ensures others receive the care, dignity, and support they deserve.”

🚧 White Line Painting at The Hurlet 🚧

Just a quick update to let everyone know that white lines are being freshly painted today at the crematorium. If you arrive to visit the memorial gardens and see cones at the gate, please give us around half an hour to allow the paint to dry.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we keep the grounds looking their best. 🌿

💃🌿 Teamwork, Friendship & Support 🌿💃

At The Hurlet, we’re proud to say our team is more than just colleagues — we’re friends who support each other both in and out of work. 💚

Last week, the Hurlet staff were front row cheering on Angela at her Strictly St Vincent’s event, and what a fantastic night it was! We’re so proud of her for taking part and raising money for such a wonderful cause. 🌟

Well done, Angela — you did us all proud! 💃✨

💃✨ ANGELA WINS ✨🕺

What a night. Our very own Angela, Assistant Manager at The Hurlet Crematorium, took to the stage for the Strictly Come Dancing charity competition in aid of St Vincent’s Hospice. She had never danced before in her life and only had one month of training with Craig, a professional dancer. They squeezed in practice both at the studio and even in our ceremony hall when they could.

On the night she absolutely stole the show. The judges were blown away, literally saying “wow” and each giving her the maximum score of 10 each. That secured her a place in the final where only three couples competed and, against very strong competition, Angela and Craig won.

Their routine was a dramatic Pirates of the Caribbean performance, with Angela as a fierce pirate captain battling her partner. From sword fights to powerful choreography, she owned that stage and left all of us breathless. We were there cheering her on and could not have been prouder.

This was all for St Vincent's Hospice, who provide outstanding care and support to families when they need it most. Angela is so close to her donation goal and there is still time to support her. If you would like to help her reach £2500, please consider donating through the link below and help continue the amazing work St Vincent’s do for our community.
