Angela Hecht Therapy

Angela Hecht Therapy Psychotherapeutic counsellor Life is difficult. But obstacles don’t have to stop you.

I work with adults and adolescents, who are experiencing personal difficulties, to help them overcome their problems and to give them the tools to make appropriate changes to their lives. Whether this is an eating disorder, anxiety and depression, or relationship difficulties, I can work with you using a variety of different approaches, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), to help you pick yourself up again. I am an Occupational Therapist with over 40 years’ experience in mental health. As a member of the original team who formulated and established the therapeutic treatment programmes for the Priory Hospital in Glasgow, I have vast experience in both individual and group therapy. I have a particular focus on eating disorders and worked in the specialist eating disorders unit at the Priory for a number of years before broadening my experience to the voluntary sector, mentoring adults and providing psychotherapeutic counselling. I have also been heavily involved in the Children’s Panel and sat on the Children’s Panel Advisory Committee for a number of years. My passion in life is to help others and to help you to find a way to be happy with what you have and to pursue all that you want

Anxiety can filter into every part of our life and make it so hard to navigate through the day! It’s like an octopus whose tentacles touch everything and not in a good way!
It chips away at our self confidence and lowers our self esteem and makes us second guess every decision!
It’s so important that we learn how to manage our anxiety so that it isn’t able to damage our quality of life!
Reach out for support.

For some strange reason men seem to struggle more with a perception of stigma surrounding mental health struggles than women do. Men struggle with the same issues as women. Low mood, anxiety and stress and often not feeling good enough.
We all need to encourage our menfolk to reach out for help and support and help them to get the best quality of life they possibly can.

When people are struggling for whatever reason they often feel alone and isolated and often feel like they’re the only ones having a hard time! That feeling of being alone can intensify symptoms and make their struggles even harder!
Patience, support and understanding go a long way.

MENTAL HEALTH IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS PHYSICAL HEALTH 💚

When you break your arm or your leg people don’t expect you to do everything you did before. They don’t force you to walk because they know it hurts and you can’t do it.
A mental illness is just the same so you cannot expect someone who is battling a mental illness, whether it’s depression or anxiety or both to do the things they did before.
It’s much harder for those people who are struggling as the rest of us can’t necessarily see it!
Let’s be kind, supportive and non judgmental just the same as we would be with physical illness!

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY
FRIDAY 10th. OCTOBER!

This year’s theme is “ Mental Health is a Universal Human Right “ a powerful reminder that care, compassion and support should never be a privilege!

Mental Health isn’t just a conversation for one day - it’s a daily reality for millions. It’s the quiet battles, the invisible weight, the strength it takes to simply keep going.

Whether you’re thriving or surviving, or somewhere in between, your story matters and your feelings are valid.

Let’s normalise:
Checking in on friends without needing a reason.
Saying “ I’m not okay” without shame.

Let’s make this 10th October not just a day of awareness, but a spark for change!

Depression isn’t “just sadness”. It’s numbness, fatigue or feeling like joy is out of reach - even when everything seems “fine”.
Some people stay in bed.
Some show up to work.
Some lose their appetite.
Some eat to feel something.
Some cry.
Some go quiet.
Some take medication.
Some don’t.
Some have support.
Some feel invisible.
It’s not always obvious.
It’s not always dramatic.
It’s not always what you expect.

So be gentle.
Don’t assume and don’t judge.

Anxiety isn’t just “stress “ it’s racing thoughts, overthinking, having lots of “what ifs” or feeling that something bad is always round the corner or is very likely to happen!
For so many people, these struggles are a daily reality. Some wake up already feeling the weight of worry while others carry an invisible heaviness throughout their day.
No one needs to battle this on their own!
