Next up, here’s how Zaynah deals with stress:

Colouring is more than a child’s activity, it’s a time to relax distracting you from your constant use of electronics. This allows you to get a better nights sleep, avoiding our phones emitted light which reduces sleep hormones. Better sleep means less stress. Colouring also has the ability to relax the fear centre of your brain. It involves the same state as meditating by clearing your mind, this mindfulness and quietness allows for better rest after whatever stress you could be facing in your day to day basis.”

Next up, words from our Operations Director, Toby, about how he de-stresses.
“I find the best way not to be stressed in the morning is to get a good nights sleep. The way I achieve this is by using a sleep mask. A sleep mask helps tricks your brain and body into thinking it's time to sleep as sleep mask block out all light giving the appearance of the room being pitch black. This helps me to get to sleep at a reasonable time and makes me feel that I can face the challenges of that day.”
Just shows the importance of a good nights sleep!

How do you deal with stress?

Over the next few days we will be telling you about how some of the Finesse team cope with the stress that they face. First up is Struan:

“To cope with the stress that I face I tend to go to the gym. If it’s after a long day I’ll go home then wait until after dinner before going up leaving myself just under an hour before the gym closes meaning I need to work even harder and faster. When I go in I’ll go in with a purpose know what I want to do and how much I want to do of it. Also I will put my headphones on and get into the zone usually not speaking to anyone unless I have to. My workouts mainly consist of heavy weight lifting so I get pumped up and feel myself working hard and focusing on what I planned on doing. The stress from the day also acts as a good motivator as if I’m trying to prove someone or something wrong. Once I leave the gym and have blocked out the stresses I’ve faced during the day I feel good about myself as I’ve achieved something.”

Let’s hear how you cope with stress. Drop a comment below or DM any questions you have!

Last week some of the team went on the school business trip to NYC. What a great experience getting to see the United Nations Building and Wall Street. Sometimes short breaks are long overdue and needed to recharge the battery. For us it definitely was needed, School work, exams and working life can get on top of anyone. A break doesn’t need to be a fancy trip away but even just a quiet weekend at home relaxing and reading a book is enough.

What can you do to help your stress levels? One of the best is exercise. However, you can’t just buy it and apply it. To successfully reduce stress it’s something you need to stick it and commit to. Exercise is one of the most important things you can do to combat stress.

It might seem contradictory, but putting physical stress on your body through exercise can relieve mental stress.

The benefits are strongest when you exercise regularly. People who exercise regularly are less likely to experience anxiety than those who don't exercise.

There are a few reasons behind this:

Stress hormones: Exercise lowers your body's stress hormones — such as cortisol — in the long run. It also helps release endorphins, which are chemicals that improve your mood and act as natural painkillers.
Sleep: Exercise can also improve your sleep quality, which can be negatively affected by stress and anxiety.
Confidence: When you exercise regularly, you may feel more competent and confident in your body, which in turn promotes mental wellbeing.
Try to find an exercise routine or activity you enjoy, such as walking, dancing, rock climbing or yoga.

Activities — such as walking or jogging — that involve repetitive movements of large muscle groups can be particularly stress relieving.

Continuing on from yesterday’s post on the subject of stress. Stress has so many different impacts not just mentally but physically too. It effects different systems in different ways, such as, under stress the liver produces extra blood sugar but under chronic stress your body may not be able to keep up.

Let’s talk about stress!

What is stress?
Stress is the body's reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life. You can experience stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts. Even positive life changes such as a promotion, a mortgage, or the birth of a child produce stress.
