I used to live in a constant state of overthinking and stress, my body tight and tense, my breath shallow, my mind never switching off.
I had gotten so used to it that I couldn’t remember any other way of being.
For years I couldn’t even carry a backpack over my shoulders. I just lived with it.
Until I started learning how my body was communicating with me.
I had to learn embodiment because I was so in my head I didn’t even know what connecting to the body felt like. It didn’t feel safe.
When I began learning about the nervous system, and how to work with it rather than against it, everything started to shift.
I realised I had been stuck in survival mode: constant doing, fighting, resisting, trying to control the outcome.
Slowly I began to be in my body again, to listen to what it was saying.
My body started to show me the way, a pathway to deep healing.
Now I work with it, not against it.
What happened?
My energy came back.
My digestion settled.
I stopped feeling on edge.
I finally felt safe resting, slowing down, and actually being in my body.
Once I felt safe within, it became safe to start creating the life I truly desired.
Feeling safe really is the foundation for any change.
We cannot create anything until our system feels safe to.
This work is so important.
I now have so many tools, from my own lived experience, to support others with regulation, healing deep-rooted trauma, and rewiring the system back to safety.
One thing I wish I knew 20 years ago is that I didn’t have to do it alone.
