AHRO Institute Launches Annual Conference Series, Plans Rapid Expansion
Stevenage, UK — The AHRO Institute (Africa Health Research Organization’s academic arm) has officially unveiled its AHRO Conferences initiative, launching a programme of 12 academic and scientific conferences scheduled to run each year. This marks a strategic expansion of the institute’s research dissemination and global engagement activities.
The Director-General of the AHRO Institute, Professor Abubakar Yaro, stated that the current twelve events are part of a broader plan to strengthen exchange and collaboration in health research, education, and policy dialogue. According to Prof. Yaro:
“Our aim is to grow this annual portfolio from 12 conferences today to at least 100 by the year 2030, positioning AHRO as a leading convener of scientific discourse across multiple disciplines and regions.” (paraphrased)
Prof. Yaro emphasised that increasing the number of scientific gatherings is central to the institute’s mission of promoting evidence-based research and building scholarly networks globally — especially in areas such as global health, clinical research, and interdisciplinary studies.
The AHRO Conferences are designed to cover diverse themes each year, including infectious diseases, public health systems, clinical research innovations, climate and health intersections, and other priority areas in science and society. Organisers say that offering a regular series of events will help accelerate research collaboration, mentor emerging scholars, and connect policy makers with cutting-edge scientific insights.
While the new conference calendar begins with 12 flagship events, Prof. Yaro and the AHRO leadership have outlined a strategic scale-up plan intended to build capacity, partnerships, and sponsorships that can support 100 conferences by 2030 — a ten-fold increase over the next few years. This growth is aligned with the institute’s long-term vision of broadening its influence in global academic forums and research ecosystems.
The AHRO Institute already conducts research, publishing, and training activities across Africa and internationally, and the expanded conference initiative seeks to complement these efforts by fostering knowledge exchange and actionable research outcomes.
