DOSE…. are you getting yours?

Yesterday evening with my husband, we walked our grown up children‘s puppies along the cycle path near our home. The path runs through a ‘green belt’ of fields and trees.🌿

This is something I really enjoy especially when the sun is shining! It’s good for them and it’s good for us. Here’s why……

DOPAMINE - reward & motivation.

OXYTOCIN- bonding with our dog.

SEROTONIN - mood boosting & improved sleep.

ENDORPHINS- feelings of pleasure & wellbeing.

Just by walking your dog, both you and your dog experience all of these positive feelings in your body. And that is motivating enough for us to go another walk again tomorrow!🐶

How will you get your DOSE of feel good this weekend?

Today is summer solstice in the northern hemisphere ie. the day of the year that has the most hours of daylight.

I’ll be making the most of the day by going to a neighbourhood festival with live music, stalls, beer gardens & more.

What will you be doing to enjoy this long summer day?

As a life coach , I help parents going through the empty nest transition find new purpose, confidence and joy beyond parenting.

When your grown up child comes home with his partner, puppy and stuff! …..

Another joy of being an empty nester mum is having your kids home again ( for a while 😅 ).
It’s a joy to have their company & energy in our home again….

Yes, we just got used to the quiet, tidyness and space but living together again is a reminder of how far they’ve come…..

How they can take care of themselves 🌿

Seeing them work towards their goals 🌿

How they’re taking responsibility for their own life 🌿

Their emotional growth 🌿

It’s comforting to be reminded of this and I feel happy that we can give them a secure & welcoming base till they move on again.

As a life coach & having gone through the empty nest transition myself, I help other parents find new purpose, confidence & joy beyond parenting.

If you need help with this challenge please D.M. me and see how I can help you.

The unexpected gifts of being an empty nester mum….

As the days of melancholy and emptiness fade after our kids leave home and we start to embrace our new way of being, the work we put in as parents is often rewarded.

My daughter has become my friend as well as a loving daughter.

We do not lose our role as a parent when our kids leave home, our relationship just changes 🌿

What positive, joyful or surprising things have happened since you became an empty nester?

As a qualified life coach & empty nester myself, I help other parents navigate this transition with confidence, joy & renewed purpose 🌿

Empty Nest, Full Life

One of the things I love to do is travel. Now that our kids are grown up and independent I have been able to spend more time exploring new places.🌿

As far back as I can remember I have loved the sense of freedom I feel in travelling.
Discovering new sights, tastes, sounds and aromas wakes up my senses.
Learning about other cultures , talking to the local people and other travellers opens up my mind to new and different things. 🌿

Just now I’m in beautiful Alaçatı, in Turkiye. 🌿

What is one thing that you would love to do now that your kids have left home?🌿

As a qualified life coach & empty nester myself I help other parents navigate this transition with confidence, joy and renewed purpose.🌿

Are you prepared for your adult child leaving home this autumn? ……

The start of summer can be a busy time for school leavers and their parents .
With exams, high school graduations & preparation to move away from home to college/ university , there isn’t much time left for reflection.

Along with the excitement & pride for your child, there’s likely a bit of anxiety about your next chapter.
If you haven’t already been thinking about & actively preparing yourself for the transition to empty nester, now is the time to start shifting the focus to yourself.
Here are a few tips to help you feel more positive & even excited about the next chapter….,

There will be a rollercoaster of emotions. You can help yourself feel more balanced by sharing the experience with other parents going through the same. Or pour it all out in your journal .
You can help your child by being a source of support & strength. Yes it’s an exciting time for them but life changing for them too.🌿

Start to explore new interests or develop things that you already enjoy.
You might be thinking about returning to work or training to do something new. Maybe volunteering for a cause that you care about interests you or you want to focus on your health & fitness.
Whatever you pursue, this is your time to invest in yourself 🌿

With less family demands on your time now, this is the time to nurture your relationships.
Meeting up with friends or seeking out some new connections, can be a source of support & inspiration.
Create new routines with your spouse or plan a trip somewhere to add some adventure into your relationship. 🌿

Stay closely connected to your child. Find the balance of making room for their growing independence while spending quality time together. Maybe weekly video calls during term time and planning something special during holidays.
Every family is unique so talk to your child about how you want your relationship to be and this will help you both ease into this transition.🌿

As a life coach & empty nester myself, I can help you step into this next chapter of your life with purpose, confidence & joy 🦋

Michelle Obama has recently talked about having therapy. She opens up to Jay Shetty on how she was brought up, her views on parenting, and being an empty nester.

While therapy and coaching aim to help people improve their lives, they differ in their focus & approach.

Here are some of the benefits of working with a great coach….

Coaching can help you get clear about what you want in your life 🌿

Coaching can help you to unlock your own potential to improve your life 🌿

Coaching is non directive, rather it helps raise your awareness and you are listened to with a positive regard 🌿

Coaching is about co - creating a pathway to help you get to where you want to be🌿

Coaching is about walking on that pathway with you, supporting, encouraging and helping you take the steps towards transformation 🌿

As a qualified life coach and empty nester myself I can help you find new purpose, identity and joy beyond parenting…..

Have you become an empty nester and find yourself struggling with feelings of loneliness sadness or regrets?🪹

It’s okay not to be okay….. The month of May is the time of year when mental health comes into focus through media, charities and events.

The following strategies can help us to strengthen our emotional wellbeing and mental health….

Develop coping skills such as regular practice of yoga, breath work and walking in nature. This helps regulate your nervous system which can help you feel calm & grounded 🦋

Prioritise self care by paying attention to sleep, diet & exercise. Practice a hobby that you enjoy 🦋

Practice gratitude by focusing on what is good in your life 🦋

Seek support by reaching out and talking to a trusted friend or find professional help if you aren’t managing your own emotions 🦋

Connection and nurturing your relationships is essential for good mental health 🦋

Practice healthy boundaries to protect your energy and time for a healthy work- life balance & balanced relationships. This includes limiting news & social media which can highlight negative information 🦋

Taking time to do the things you enjoy like music, reading a good book, playing a sport or other hobby, helps you relax and boosts your mood 🦋

Practicing mindfulness strengthens your ability to be present in the moment rather than engaging in mind wandering to the past or future 🦋

Last but not least, be kind to yourself especially in your self talk. Being critical and harsh towards yourself is counterproductive to your happiness.
Remind yourself that brighter days are ahead 🦋

As a qualified life coach & empty nester myself I can help you find new purpose, confidence & joy beyond parenting.

Empty nest, full heart: How to create meaning again together.❤️

The house is quieter, routines are changing and you’re wondering what you’re both gonna talk about if it’s not about the kids? …..

Research from ‘The Gottman Institute ‘ shows that couples need to create shared meaning.
How can we find new shared meaning as a couple after the kids leave home and we are no longer hands on parents?…..

Here are 5 evidence based strategies to help empty nest couples embrace the next chapter together….

1. Co- creating new goals 🌿
this could look like learning something new together,( 💃 salsa anyone? ) or travelling?

2. Cultivating flexibility in your relationship roles 🌿
traditional roles that we held as mum & dad might need updating. Maybe one wants to explore a new career and the other one could step up to support?

3. Strengthening emotional & physical intimacy🌿
this could be making regular time to go out for dinner/ movies, or even just a walk together?

4. Building a support network together🌿
as activities & routines that we once shared as a family shift , it becomes even more important to surround ourselves with friends & like minded people to support us and broaden our perspectives. This could be exploring a new hobby together or meeting up wit other parents going through similar experiences?

5. Developing a legacy project together🌿
A study ( Zinck 2009 ) showed that for some midlife couples, engaging in activities in service of their partner, family & community, transformed their relationship by infusing meaning & purpose into it.

As a qualified coach and empty nester myself, I can help you move into the next chapter of your life with purpose and joy.
