Plans for a 213MW data centre in west Edinburgh have been unanimously rejected by councillors - despite a recommendation for approval. The decision highlights increasing scrutiny around the environmental standards applied to large-scale digital infrastructure.

💬 Speaking to Scottish Construction Now, IES’ Associate Director Colin Rees said:
“Environmental assessments are clearly an essential part of the planning process, but there remains uncertainty around what evidence is expected, when it should be provided, and how fully potential impacts should be addressed.”

Independent performance modelling brings clarity by:
