They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes… but spending the morning with was an absolute joy.

Amazing to listen to Sophie’s voice once again, not on a mp3 track like in 2022 during my second pregnancy when I discovered Mindful Mamma, but in person 🫶

Feeling inspired ⭐️ and who knows, you might just see our names side by side sometime soon x

What on earth has a comb got to do with birth?
Honestly? Back in the day, I wondered the same thing.

But it actually makes complete sense and it’s backed by science, not guesswork.

Here’s the magic of the birthing comb 👇✨

When you hold the teeth of the comb in your hand and apply pressure, it triggers a clever little brain trick called the GATE CONTROL THEORY OF PAIN.
👉In simple terms: your brain can only process so many sensations at once.
So when the nerves in your hand are activated, they compete with the signals from your contractions; meaning your brain focuses on a sensation it understands, instead of getting swept up in fear or adrenaline.

That shift helps your body move out of “fight or flight” and back into the calm, oxytocin-rich state that supports birth beautifully.

For some women it becomes a powerful coping tool.
For others, it’s a simple tactile anchor that keeps them centred and in control.

Would you pack it in your hospital bag? 💛

💛 What is colostrum?

Colostrum is the very first milk your body produces during late pregnancy and in the first few days after birth. Often called liquid gold, it’s packed with everything your baby needs in those first precious days, especially when you might not have much else in place yet.

⭐️ Just a few drops hold more immune power than a whole bottle of mature milk.

⭐️ It’s thick, concentrated, and perfectly designed for your baby’s tiny tummy.

⭐️ Full of antibodies and white blood cells that coat your baby’s gut and protect against infections- even before their immune system starts working.

⭐️ Rich in growth factors that support your baby’s gut, lungs, and brain development - true building blocks for life.

⭐️ It even helps your baby pass meconium quickly, reducing the risk of jaundice.

This incredible first milk is nature’s way of giving your baby the best possible start.

If you’ve never met with a doula before, this part can feel a little unknown.

So here’s what to expect during your free consultation with me ⬇️

💛 We’ll talk about what YOU need: whether that’s emotional support, birth prep, or just someone who can explain all the options.

💛 We’ll chat about where you are in your pregnancy and how you’re feeling: physically, emotionally, all of it.

💛 We’ll talk about your birth hopes, any worries or fears, what kind of birth environment feels right for you and how to prepare for it.

💛 And if you have a partner, we’ll talk about how I can support both of you, so they feel involved and prepared too.

🙋‍♀️ You can ask me anything - no question is too small or too personal.

🌿 By the end of the call, my goal is for you to feel calmer, more informed, and know if I’m the right fit for you.

It’s free, friendly, and there’s absolutely no pressure: just a space to talk, ask questions, and feel heard.

You don’t have to figure everything out alone. That’s exactly what I’m here for.

Did you know your body is designed to move during birth?

Lying flat isn’t always the most helpful position. In fact, upright and forward-leaning postures often make labour smoother, more efficient, and more comfortable.

Here’s why ⤵️

1️⃣ Gravity helps the baby move down
When you’re upright, standing, squatting, or sitting forward, gravity works with you.
This helps your baby descend through the pelvis and may shorten labour.
👉 Try: gentle swaying, leaning over a birth ball, or rocking on hands and knees.

2️⃣ Opening the pelvis creates space
Positions like squatting, lunging, or being on all fours can widen the pelvic outlet by up to 20–30%.
That extra room helps the baby rotate and settle into the best position for birth.
👉 Try: a supported squat or side-lying with one knee bent to open your hips.

3️⃣ Upright = better oxygen flow
When you lie flat on your back, your uterus can press on major blood vessels.
Being upright or side-lying keeps blood and oxygen flowing freely to both you and baby, helping contractions stay strong and baby stay well.
👉 Try: semi-sitting, kneeling, or side-lying with pillows for support.

4️⃣ Movement helps the baby find their way
Your body naturally tells you what to do.
Rocking, swaying, or changing positions helps baby align with the pelvis and progress smoothly.
👉 Follow your instincts, if it feels right, it probably is right.

5️⃣ You feel more in control
Being upright often makes women feel more confident, capable, and connected.
Birth becomes something you do, not something done to you.
👉 Remember: confidence and comfort are powerful labour tools.

💛 Doula tip:
You don’t have to stay in one position. Move, rest, and follow what feels right in each moment.
Gravity, movement, and intuition are some of your best birth companions.

Save this post for your birth prep.
Share it with another mama who deserves to feel confident and supported. 🌿
