We have 12 different locations where you can do an antenatal course with us at The Village Midwife in January 2026 ⭐️

How crazy is that?! My little antenatal course that I wrote in 2018 whenever my baby napped has grown more than I could ever have imagined! (As has the little baby, who is nearly 8!)

Scroll to the end of the post for our new, fantastic midwives - I’ll be doing an intro post about them all soon ❤️ Plus, we have some fab new midwives joining us from April 2026 as well!

Oh how I love seeing TVM antenatal groups out together! ❤️❤️❤️Thanks for letting me share guys!

When the kids are going away on camp and you haven’t got any little pots to put their shower gel in….

*Which let’s be honest, isn’t going to be used anyway!

Reasons that The Village Midwife wouldn’t be here if I wasn’t incredibly neurodivergent: (aka, f**k you trump)

🌈 I wouldn’t have the raging justice sensitivity that really spurs me on when it comes to birth rights and underpins the antenatal course - plus it helps me be a pretty feisty advocate when it comes to my clients as an independent midwife

🌈 I wouldn’t have been so impulsive in setting up a business and writing a course with a 4 month old baby as a single mum! (!)

🌈 I have been hyper focusing on my #1 special interest aka pregnancy and birth for at least 15 years now and it helps me retain a tonne of info that I just don’t retain about things I’m not as interested in

🌈 I did the same when I hyperfocused on breastfeeding when I had Arthur and both things have massively helped me as a midwife in terms of my knowledge base!

🌈 I know it doesn’t suit everyone, but I teach in a very roundabout way - telling birth stories, responding to the room and also having *barely any filter* which people apparently really love (or I hope anyway!)

🌈 My lack of social norms sometimes means I ask questions or observe things that people don’t comment on which weirdly helps me on postnatal courses because it helps me encourage people to share - plus my lack of filter means I’ll share things that people don’t generally share about and then everyone starts sharing and the magic happens!

🌈 Because of my hyper focus and the energy it gives me - I can work 70+ hour work weeks sometimes (hello September babies!) and have the energy to do so when needed, it suits being an IM to some degree with the peaks and troughs

🌈 It’s affected how I parent - I don’t always clock social norms as quickly as everyone else and this has really helped me find my own way to parent rather than thinking about what I *should* be doing, which for me led to bedsharing and gentle parenting (and now to me understanding my son’s own experience of the world) and it also helps me advocate for him as I know *exactly* how he deserves to be received by the world because he is bloody excellent!

Feel free to share how your own neurodivergence has helped you - in a big ‘f**k you’ to being told that this part of ourselves should be prevented or cured ❤️

I am running around like a bit of a headless chicken at the moment because work is **ridiculously busy** (September madness?!)

I just wanted to say thank you to clients for understanding when I reply to WhatsApp’s super late in the evening, send emails slightly later than planned and generally look a bit frazzled 😂 very grateful to have such lovely clients who don’t mind!

My name is Sophie and I buy £60 of biscuits at a time and feel the need to tell the person at the checkout that “they really are all for work!!!”

in hindsight, that makes it sound much more like I am covering up the fact that I have bought an entire basket of biscuits just to eat on my own at home…

On a sidenote, I have so many dairy free mums at the moment but luckily I have become a connoisseur of dairy free biscuits so we always have two plates of options for postnatal groups at HQ 🍪

PS if you fancy the sound of my biscuits (why does that sound a bit weird 😂) and you’ve recently had a baby, you would be very welcome on one of our postnatal courses starting next week in Wendover! We have one starting on Monday with one space left that is aimed at first time mums and another starting on Wednesday which is for second and third time parents 😊

Come and join us on our lush postnatal courses in Wendover - we have 4 courses between now and Christmas, if you’re stuck which one to do just drop me a message and I can let you know which one has similar aged babies! 👶 https://www.tickettailor.com/events/thevillagemidwife/1645292 As always, if finances are a barrier we have a fund set aside so that everyone can come along to a course with us - no questions asked 😘

Our Story

The Village Midwife courses began in 2018. Although I was an NHS midwife I was shocked at how isolating motherhood was and it made me want to create more postnatal support and a community of mums where I lived in Buckinghamshire. I wrote and designed an ever evolving antenatal and postnatal course and also trained to teach hypnobirthing, and since 2018 have been preparing and supporting parents to be through pregnancy, giving birth and the postnatal period. Our reviews speak for themselves - this is truly a personalised, holistic service with a difference and much more than many antenatal courses can offer. I still practise as an NHS midwife which means I can prepare parents for the maternity system they are giving birth in and how best to navigate this using the benefit of my experience, while supporting them emotionally. Our community of parents makes me proud on a daily basis and we meet weekly at The No Sleep Club in Prestwood and our non cliquey, non judgemental postnatal courses are hugely popular!
