Reflexology in pregnancy and the postnatal period can be so effective in helping to relieve pregnancy related ailments such as pelvic girdle pain, pregnancy sickness, constipation, as well as general relaxation.

It can also be used, alongside other therapies, to encourage the onset of labour. Check out my avoiding induction and birth prep info on the website!

We are saddened to hear news of the passing of Michel Odent, whose vision and writing reshaped the way we understand human birth.

Michel Odent reminded us that birth is not a medical procedure to be controlled, but a primal rythm to be respected. He advocated for home-like maternity units, warm water births, protecting the birthing woman's privacy and honouring her instincts, undisturbed contact between mother and newborn; he was among the first to discuss the importance of the microbiome, and question many of the practices that had (and have) become normalised in overmedicalised maternity systems globally.

Michel Odent's legacy lives on in every dimmed, quiet birthing room, and in every midwife his words and work inspired to join our profession.

Thank you, Michel, for your passion, vision and committment to women and newborns.

What if we told women the truth about birth?

We’d have to tell them that contractions will probably be more than “surges” or “sensations.”

That they’ll probably rock your world and leave you begging for salvation as you clutch the edge of the tub or the hospital linens.

That your gentle breathing exercises and your Spotify soundtrack will be left in the dust as you sweat and pant and sway and swear your way through it

That you’ll trip harder than any mushroom you ever did in college and vomit with the same ferocity and travel to places deep within yourself that you didn’t know existed.

That you’ll float above your body and simultaneously be trapped in it with an intensity you’ve never tasted.

And in that intensity,
in the sweating and the swearing
and the swaying and the vomiting
and the endless hours of contractions crashing down upon you ...

You’ll find your strength.
You’ll find a resilience you’ve never known.
You’ll find the power you need for the journey of Motherhood ahead.

In the messy humanity of it all,
you’ll find that you are holy.
A portal to the divine.
Capable of indescribable miracles.
A vessel of sacred life.

What if we told women the truth about birth?
We’d have to tell them they are capable of anything.

Worthy of being treated like goddesses.
Made to walk through the flames,
surf the tidal waves,
dive into the underworld
And come out alive.

Not unscathed.
Not unchanged.
But whole
and healed
and ready to take on the world.

If we told women the truth about birth,
we’d have to admit that we’ve lied about everything else,
and that they are more powerful,
more fierce,
more capable,
more beautiful,
than we’ve ever let on.

If we told the truth about birth?
We’d shatter the world.

✨What an amazing subject to learn so much more about!!

💚Labour and birth is hard work, yes, it takes effort and time and energy... it’s the most intense and powerful act - bringing a human into life outside the womb, wow.... it’s a feeling like no other, but it shouldn’t be days of agonising back pain and despair, hours of what feels like torcher as you get drained of every bead of energy and hope. NO. It should and CAN be intense beyond belief but also empowering and connecting and AMAZING.

💚 Did you know you can begin preparing your baby’s optimal position well before labour? Simple movements and positioning can make a big difference!💚

Alongside my role as a Specialist Midwife offering complementary therapies, I also work on a busy labour ward. This week I had the privaledge of supporting a lovely couple as they welcomed their second baby! 💕

Labour didn’t progress as quickly as expected, with many hours of early labour and mobilisation. When I spent time with mum, I palpated her bump and felt baby was quite high and shifted to the side—not quite in the best position yet.

So we tried a technique known as side-lying release—and wow, what a transformation! Within 15 mins... a speedy and joyful arrival! 💫

In my Birth Preparation & Avoiding Induction sessions, we explore biomechanics and how you can work with your body during pregnancy and birth.
