Dietwise

Dietwise ''All dietitians are nutritionists, but not all nutritionists are dietitians'' Be sure you choose a Hello and welcome.

I am Dawn Shotton, founder of Dietwise, and am an expert dietitian with a passion for helping people with their nutrition goals. I have been qualified and UK registered for over 23 years. For the last 15 years of my career I have pursued my passion and interest in weight management and weight loss (bariatric) surgery in both the public sector and through private practice. In freelance work I enjoy supporting people with weight loss allergy management and weight gain expertise. I feel a natural empathy and compassion for those who struggle with food issues which, I am told, is completely transparent to all those I aim to support. I provide private diet advice, consultations and support to anyone requiring it. Check out my web site and sign up to my blog for regular free updates, recipes and advice

It is Dietitians Week this week. You never stop learning and developing in dietetics. My biggest learning curve was a Masters Degree I completed in 2013 - specialist knowledge in Weight Management which I now use every day. But it is a Counselling qualification I completed very early in my career, 1990 in fact! This qualification has probably influence my dietetic approach more than anything I have done. It taught me to understand the person, respect the person and respond to their priorities first and foremost. Because if I cannot do this, my dietary advice will be powerless.

It is Dietitians Week this week. My career path has be different to most - I started in freelance dietetics over 20 years ago, while still working in the NHS. I later took the big step into freelance full time in 2014, leaving the NHS for good - I have never looked back or regretted it! I enjoy the freedom, autonomy and responsibility of running my own business - it is hard work but absolutely worth it for the wonderful rewards I get as .

Its Dietitians week this week. Today we are celebrating why we chose a career in this field - I had to think about this, as it is over 35 years ago since I made my choice!!! Mostly, it is because I have always liked to understand people and help them overcome some of the hurdles they face when trying to make the the right choices for health. https://www.bda.uk.com/asset/D5DF6AF1%2D3705%2D471E%2D8F13335C89EB0CBE/

Love this article from a registered dietitian on the BBC talking common sense - there is no 'superfoods', just super diet choices!

From matcha to pomegranate, we’re constantly told about the benefits of so-called ‘superfoods’. They often come with a hefty price tag, too. But are there cheaper alternatives that are just as good for us?
