It's Children's Mental Health Week.
And I'm sharing some ways to support your child when they are having a difficult time...
β€οΈ Connect with them- Connection is ALWAYS key!
Get down to their level, meet them where they are at emotionally, and give them your full, undivided attention.
𧑠Validate their feelings- Say phrases such as...
"I hear you"
"It's safe to feel these feelings here with me"
"I can see you feel really angry/ sad/ frustrated"
"I know you are having a hard time, I'm here with you"
π Encourage physical activity - Movement helps. Go for a walk together, suggest a physical sport or outdoor activity.
π Listen without trying to rescue - Actively listening without jumping in to make them feel better or trying to problem solve is very powerful.
π Do something fun together.
When your child feel connected to you and loved unconditionally despite their big emotions, they are more likely to open up and express their feelings.
