Conquest Maternity

Conquest Maternity Our midwives provide midwife-led and consultant led care at the Conquest Hospital consultant led maternity unit where we also have neonatal services.

Our Maternity departments serve the population of East Sussex where we care for around 3,300 pregnant people and their babies each year, during pregnancy, labour, birth and up until one month after birth. We have a midwife-led birthing unit in Eastbourne Hospital. A home birth service is also available dependent upon an individual assessment. Your experience of pregnancy and birth really matters to us and we will do all we can to provide the best possible care for you, your partner and your baby, within the hospital, community and home settings. We are committed to personalised care and will try to meet your wishes so far as it is safely possible. Our Facebook group is a great platform for us to communicate with you, you to communicate with each other and for us to get your fantastic ideas, photos, experiences and views. What is it for? ~
This is a group for pregnant people and their family to share information and discuss topics relating to the maternity service at ESHT. This group is a great way to share your views and ideas. No hate speech or bullying ~
Make sure everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind isn't allowed, and degrading comments about things such as race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender or identity will not be tolerated. Keep it relevant ~

This week marks the start of the very first Neurodivergent Birth Week, a dedicated moment to recognise the experiences of neurodivergent women and birthing people, and why understanding these experiences is essential for protecting perinatal mental health.

At PANDAS, we know that pregnancy, birth and early parenthood can be overwhelming, and for neurodivergent parents, the sensory, communication and emotional pressures of this phase can be intensified. When needs aren’t recognised or appropriate adjustments aren’t in place, it can increase stress, anxiety and feelings of being misunderstood. That’s why improving awareness isn’t just “nice to have”, it’s a crucial part of supporting good perinatal mental health for everyone.

We’re proud to stand with our partners at Neurodivergent Birth, founded in 2023 by doula Victoria White, who has worked tirelessly to highlight the realities faced by neurodivergent parents and to push for more inclusive maternity and perinatal systems. Her work is driven not only by professional expertise but also by lived experience within her own family, creating a space where neurodivergent journeys are recognised, respected and supported.

Throughout the week, the Neurodivergent Birth team will be hosting:
- Online lunch-and-learns
- Examples of great practice and meaningful adjustments
- Resource packs designed to spark better conversations in workplaces and perinatal settings

By learning, listening and adapting our approaches, we can help reduce unnecessary distress and create perinatal environments that genuinely support good mental health for neurodivergent parents.

You can find the full schedule of webinars and resources at

Together, we can help build a perinatal landscape where every neurodivergent family feels safe, understood and supported.

This Christmas, instead of gifts and decorations, many new parents and carers need something different:

❤️ Someone to hold the baby while they shower
❤️ A meal they didn't have to prepare
❤️ Permission to rest without guilt
❤️ Understanding when they cancel plans
❤️ Space to feel what they're feeling
❤️ Reassurance that they're doing enough

Perinatal mental health issues don't take a holiday. For families affected by postnatal depression, anxiety, loneliness, PTSD or general overwhelm, the festive period can intensify feelings of isolation and inadequacy.

The greatest gift we can offer is compassion without judgment, support without strings, and the reminder that struggling doesn't make you a bad parent or carer - it makes you human.

Let's make this Christmas about connection, not perfection.

🟣 WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! 🟣

👶 To all the families who have embraced new beginnings in the last year - whether you’ve welcomed a little one into your world or supported someone in their journey - we are eager to hear from YOU! Every story, whether it unfolded at home, The Conquest, or the Eastbourne Midwifery Unit (EMU) matters.

📣 Each month, your valuable feedback is the cornerstone of our partnership with ESHT Maternity.
Your experience is our guide. Sharing it through our anonymous survey isn’t just about giving feedback; it’s about actively shaping, improving and celebrating our maternity and neonatal service.

🙏 A Special Note of Thanks: When you highlight a staff member whose care was exceptional, we don’t just listen - we act. Your appreciation where possible is relayed directly to them, celebrating and acknowledging their extraordinary commitment. 💜
