Conquest Maternity

Conquest Maternity Our midwives provide midwife-led and consultant led care at the Conquest Hospital consultant led maternity unit where we also have neonatal services.

Our Maternity departments serve the population of East Sussex where we care for around 3,300 pregnant people and their babies each year, during pregnancy, labour, birth and up until one month after birth. We have a midwife-led birthing unit in Eastbourne Hospital. A home birth service is also available dependent upon an individual assessment. Your experience of pregnancy and birth really matters to us and we will do all we can to provide the best possible care for you, your partner and your baby, within the hospital, community and home settings. We are committed to personalised care and will try to meet your wishes so far as it is safely possible. Our Facebook group is a great platform for us to communicate with you, you to communicate with each other and for us to get your fantastic ideas, photos, experiences and views. What is it for? ~

Get • 🤍 Storing breastmilk Safely 🤍

Breastmilk can be stored at room temperature, in the fridge, or in the freezer, and how long it can be kept depends on where it’s stored. Following NHS storage guidelines helps ensure milk stays safe and suitable for your baby.

A few gentle reminders:
👍 Always use clean, sterilised containers
👍 Label milk with the date it was expressed
👍 Store milk at the back of the fridge or freezer where temperatures are most consistent
👍 Use the oldest milk first where possible

If you have questions about storing, freezing, thawing, or using expressed milk, or want support with expressing in general, please reach out and our clinic team are able to help 💜

Eastbourne charity set to celebrate World Breastfeeding In Public Day

18/02/2026

With Ramadan beginning this week, today we're sharing some information from our guest blog post - Supporting Breastfeeding During Ramadan.

"As peer supporters, we have great duty in supporting mums to feel empowered to achieve their goals by giving information so their decisions are informed. Supporting mothers during Ramadan is no different to helping mums reduce factors that may have a negative impact on their breast feeding or supply.

Things to consider are:

✨Mums will need to eat high nutrient dense food such as date, fruits and nuts to help replace the magnesium, zinc and potassium levels that may reduce during fasting.

✨Avoid drinking too many caffeinated drinks and replace with water, fresh fruits juice, herbal teas and green smoothies.

✨If a mum is fasting during the winter months which can fall between 10/12hrs of fasting, this is much easier as the sunset is much earlier and they have a longer period to eat and drinking during dawn. So really its like having a very late lunch.

For peer supporters who are not Muslim or who may not know much about Ramadan, it is imperative to keep in mind that choice should always be at the forefront of any breastfeeding journey and the support we provide will very much be based on an individual case by case basis. It’s also okay to say I’m not sure and signpost/refer mums to other sources for more information.

EDIT - Fasting while breastfeeding is not an expectation, but you can choose to if you wish, and it is safe for you to do so. If you are considering fasting while breastfeeding, you may find it helpful to talk a health professional.

Please remember, if you need breastfeeding support, our National Breastfeeding Helpline UK is available 24/7 💜

You can also find out if we have a service near you on our website:

If this sounds familiar, we want you to know something important: struggling doesn't make you a bad parent. It makes you human.

The transition to parenthood can be one of the most overwhelming experiences of your life. The sleepless nights, the physical recovery, the hormone shifts, the identity change, it's a lot. And sometimes, it becomes too much.

You might feel anxious, tearful, numb, or scared. You might have thoughts that frighten you. You might feel like you're failing when everyone else seems to be coping just fine. But here's the truth: many people are quietly struggling too.

What you're going through is valid, and it doesn't mean you love your baby any less. It means you need support and that support exists.

Please don't wait until things feel impossible. Reach out now. Talk to someone you trust, contact your health visitor, or get in touch with us. Early support can make all the difference.

You're doing better than you think. And you don't have to do this alone.

[ID - Text reads: ""I thought I'd be over the moon. Instead, I just feel...empty."]

On Thursday 19 February, the Trust will be carrying an out an exercise at the Conquest Hospital. Due to a large vehicle being on site that day, there might be some traffic and parking disruption and we advise anyone travelling to the Conquest Hospital, to allow extra time in getting there.
