Domestic abuse is not always physical.

It can take many forms, including:

• Psychological abuse – manipulation, humiliation, or constant criticism that damages confidence and self-worth.
• Coercive control – isolating someone from friends or family, controlling decisions, or restricting their independence.
• Economic abuse – controlling access to money or preventing someone from working.
• Sexual abuse – forcing or pressuring someone into unwanted sexual activity.
• Technology abuse – using phones, social media, or tracking apps to monitor or harass someone.

Many men experience these behaviours but do not recognise them as abuse.

Understanding the signs is often the first step towards support.

Would a jury believe a male victim?

When people think about sexual assault, the victim is often assumed to be a woman. But sexual violence affects men and boys too.

A new study has examined how myths about male sexual assault can influence how jurors interpret evidence in court. The findings suggest that existing beliefs about masculinity and consent may shape whether male victims are believed.

For many men, the fear of not being taken seriously is one of the biggest reasons they stay silent.

Our latest blog explores the research and why challenging these misconceptions matters.

But because of shame.
Fear of not being believed.
Fear of being judged.
Fear of making it worse.

Abuse is not always physical.
It can be control.
Isolation.
Intimidation.
Emotional harm.

Many men don’t report abuse.

Not because it didn’t happen.
But because shame told them to stay quiet.

“Handle it.”
“Man up.”
“No one will believe you.”

Silence protects the stigma.
Speaking breaks it.

If you’re struggling, you are not weak for asking for support.

We are here.
